The PPG pacecar and Mallet are too far gone to be "restored."...unless building a new car around a wheel and tire counts as as a restoration. There is a point that you are actually building a clone, and what's the point. Maybe they can stay on display.

I don't think GM will want to be part of building a clone. At least I hope not.

All the cars will be displayed as recovered for awhile. At least that's the plan today.

Unless the chassis can be repaired without replacing too much of it then it's not a restoration. As already said it would be a clone or a replica. If that's the case it has no place at the museum.

If it can't be fixed display it as is, or get rid of it.
I would keep it on display if it can't be fixed. But that's not my decision to make.

Keeping them the way they are is one option, but restoring would also be good. Nowadays, everything gets restored. ;):D

I do not think that any of the Corvettes should be restored. Rather, they should be kept on display just the way they are. This event is a major chapter in the history of the Museum, and I think would make a much stronger display as is rather than spending many hundreds of thousands of dollars restoring those that can be brought back.

Personally, I think as many Corvettes that can be restored should be restored. After all, there is only 1 one-millionth Corvette, and it is restorable. I would hope that the Black C1, and the C3 Spyder can be restored to their previous state. Another 1993 Ruby has been donated to the NCM to replace the sinkhole Corvette, so I would support the GM's and the NCM's decisions on which Corvettes should and can be to restored. Don't forget, GM owns some of the Corvettes and have extensive experience in restoration at their Hertiage Center. Also, the museum was established mainly through the efforts of NCRS members who support restoration wherever possible. Those that aren't restored will be on permanent display. Maybe, the NCM will preserve the sinkhole and have tours of the area, much like Mammouth Caves up the road. The NCM said that the caves under the Skydome extend to the truck parking lot and the pond area. As a lifetime NCM member, and a NCRS member, I want to see as many of the Corvettes as possible returned to their full glory.

It's a forgone conclusion they won't all be restored. The Mallet and PPG cars have already been declared brain dead, and the restoration plug has already been pulled - as I hear it.

Unless there is a change in direction that is what being said around Bowling Green ;)
