Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

To RARE... I am Sorry....

Keep on driving Mr. Wilson. When your Vette is 32 years old she will have 872,000 miles on her. :) That's 290 oil changes. At about $50 an oil change, that's $14,533. and 26 sets of tires...$26,000. :eyerole Your current Blue Book value is $17,000. :cry

:mad....I hope you know I am just messing with you.

Your actually right. They are made to be driven. Enjoy!:Steer

What the rest of these guys are thinking is that there is allot of enjoyment in preserving their older Corvettes. Sunday drives, tinkering and car shows are enjoyable too. In fact, I am going for my weekly drive today. Let's see...where can I get to and back in less than 20 miles? :L

Kauai,
I lived on Oahu for two years (I was the Antiterrorism Officer at USCINCPAC / PACOM). You're not going to wear your machine out on that island!
LOL
I just put on my third set of tires, and I'm pretty religious about my lubes: although this is probably heresy; I did run Castrol 20W50, and I changed it every 3K miles. I just bought my first two cases of Mobil ! 5W30, and I will run that for this 100K miles, and then I'm switching to Royal Purple.
It's all about the lube / fluids, brother.
I will run this machine until I find another that I like, and then I'll give this one to my son and get a new one.
I'm really thinking about putting a blower on this one, but everybody I've spoken with is concerned that it will be too much torque for a convertible frame. What's everybody's opinion on that?
Sincerely,
John

Wow- I never thought of it that way. Good one, KauaiCorvette! (and welcome to the CAC!:thumb)

Yeah, I'd say there are thousands of hours of enjoyment beyond those automotive "healthcare" costs.

The frame will be way down on the list of things that'll cause you a problem. The torque will pop a rear axle or half-shaft a long time before you'll see it in the frame. (provided the frame is not already cracked somewhere).

Ol' Red got out one time this year- about 12 miles total for the round trip. Spent $65 for gas ($7.50/gal) for that one trip but it was worth it. Feeding the BB, turning 4:11 gears, it keeps the tank on the big "E"..

Does Texas do year of manufacture/ historic tags? Missouri has them- 5000 miles a year and "only for shows, events, or to a repair facility".

:w Tim,

Yep Texas has "Historical/Antique" tags. I chose to go with the Veteran tags ;) on RARE. If I went with "Historical" (not real sure here) I would only need to pay registration every 2 or 4 years and but still have the annual Safety Instpection! Out here in Amarillo, we don't have no EPA inspection :dance.

As it is it cost $52.80 to lic RARE,ABBY or the Montero...it's a flat fee.. :)

Bud

That's like Ohio except there is no EPA inspection in this part of the state for any type of plate. I have a set of 1959 plates for the '59 that I will be running................someday, I hope. You just have to have the historical plate in the trunk.
