I know '84s are the least collectible of the C4s, but when I came across a nice red '84 Coupe with only 54,000 miles on it ... for just $5,500.00 ... I jumped on the deal.

The car is a virtual time capsule, with everything stock and in miraculous conditiuon. I've had it about two weeks now and put a little over 100 miles on it with no problems at all. The cruise control even works good.

Today, however, the first bug showed up when the passenger window stopped working. It still has the ribbon-style regulator and I pulled the panel to give it a look. All I can come up with is a dead motor and the only fix seems to be a later-model scissors replacement. Can I get an original-type motor somewhere, even a good used one? I don't know if an '84 rates NCRS attention (how do I do that anyway?) and is it worth the bother to make this '84 a pristine original?

If your 84 is great and pristine, Id keep it as stock as possible. Cherry 84s will be worth something some day - modifides, not so much. As for parts, you can find lots of good used parts, window motors included. Replacements are pretty reasonable too. Have fun with your new C4.:happyanim:

Funny thing is ...

... I was looking for an '84 in fair to good condition to make a custom. I have a 427 on an engine stand that I planned to top with a dual-quad intake and substitute the two TBIs instead of carbs. Then, all the electronics would be compatible and I could size up the injectors for the extra cubes. I even have a spare clamshell I'm cannibalizing to build a domed hood scoop for clearance. A big-block C4. Not the first one, but still a head turner.

Now I have this cherry 27-year-old Vette and I can't bear to change it out. Guess I'll have to get another one ... that will make three counting my '95.

Oh well ... no such thing as too many Corvettes.

internal window motor/regulator will not be judged by ncrs, so your good to go!

I feel the same way Catbert; A kept up '84 will increase eventually, despite the high production numbers...it's called attrition and it's a waiting game ;)

My '84 is in overall stock shape and being a late production model, made me feel more confidant that the bugs had been worked for that year.

There's nothing like a C4 Low Drag-High Speed....enjoy it however you want

:cool!:

'preciate it.

I ordered a new-made repro motor from Eckler's, due to arrive any minute now. Meanwhile, I took out the old one and was quite pleased with the condition of everything inside. There was hardened grease and a little surface rust on a few parts, but otherwise it was a restorer's dream. Once I pop-rivet the new motor on and re-assemble it all, it will look factory-new inside and I'm sure will zip right up and down like fresh from Bowling Green. Even the ribbon is still white and supple.

The driver-side window runs a little slow ... hmmmmmmmmmm? Shall I wait for it to quit or get another motor ........... yeah.
