What are the torque specs for the flywheel and the pressure plate on a '60 Corvette? And if you can answer this, what reference are you using? Thanks. :beer

The torque specs for a 59-66 283 flywheel to crank is 60 ft lbs. This comes from a 1966 vintage Motor's Auto Repair Manual. There are no torque specs given for the pressure plate. Additionally, there are no torque specs given for the pressure plate in my 66 GM Shop Manual (for a 66 car). It says tighten the bolts gradually and evenly until tight (to avoid possible clutch distortion). My "How to rebuild your Big-Block Chevy" book by Tom Wilson states that final torque for the pressure plate after you have the clutch aligned is 35 ft lbs.

Thanks John. Funny you should mention the old manual. I have a 1975 Motors Repair Manual and I was thinking as I realized it didn't go back to 1960 that it might be a good thing to have an older version. Maybe I'll check e-bay! :beer

Terry -- My 71 Motors manual doesnt go back to 60 either. If I come across one I will pick it up for you. You wont need to be obligated if you had already found one as I will just add it to the collection. You cant have too many of these you know. :)

John,

Believe it or not, I just picked up on e-bay a used 1962 Motor Repair Manual for $10.24 shipped to my door. Go to e-bay and do an advanced search under the category of books and enter "Motor Repair Manual". There are a slew of them available, just don't bid on the 1966 issue, I'm going to bid on that one too. :D

I have a '63 Motors manual, I look in there for tidbits of info when I can't find it in my '67 Chassis manual.
I could even use it to get by on a Rambler.:L
It was very handy when I resealed/cleaned up the powerglide in my '66 Corvair.
