I finally got my new valve covers and not wanting a repeat of the last time I did this, after looking thru the (sh*tty haynes manual) and the AIM (still waiting for the arrival of the shop manual been like a month now zip-corvette backorder :mad).

I've got the nice new K&N crank air filter, gaskets and sealer ready to go.. but.....

I've been used to doing it at about 8lbs but I would rather have the correct specs as to what the bolts "SHOULD" be torqued down at can anyone ;help ?

This link might lead you to the torque spec's or you can search the net. If you want to narrow your search on the net to specifically what you want, put a " " around the search words like "torque".

The torque spec for the valve covers is 50-55 lb-in, not lb-ft. Your regular torque wrench won't measure that so you either have to bubba it on 'til it feels right or get a torque wrench that measures pound-inches.

Thanks Eric,

Exactly what I was looking for, as for the tools.. I have a multitude of torque wrenches and I have a couple that do inch pounds... with those readings I'm actually quite surprised I havent busted one sooner.

Well got the new Edelbrock Elite covers installed and new 5/16" gasket, finally!

While I was at it I finished removing the rest of the AIR and EGR systems, installed a nice new K&N crankcase air filter.

And even after 8 days of pain during the wait for parts, gave it a couple of pumps and she turned over on the first flick of starter switch.

Took it for a little bit of a drive and it might be me but she seems to have a bit more pep with all that junk removed and the independant air to crank.

Again thanks Eric :BOW, was damn hard hearing the click at that low of a torque but they are installed and snug and I'm a happy camper once again... well till the next little adventure the headers and sidies :dance

My pleasure Bill! Having overtorqued a valve cover once before myself I can relate all too well. Bad thing was, I had to replace my lower intake (no, it wasn't a Vette) as a result. Most expensive set of valve cover gaskets I ever bought:eyerole.

I tack it up to muphy's law, not having another set handy its only a matter of time before you break it... have extras and the original will last forever.
