I've got my throttle body bypassed so no coolant goes through it, but my TPIS MiniRam II still gets warm/hot to the touch. My old JL1 & even the stock TPI would not. Only difference is that the MiniRam II does not have a rear coolant crossover passage.

Does the LT1? & Do LT1 owners get the hot to the touch plenum with the coolant bypassed from the throttle body?

And does anyone think if I drill out the rear of the miniram and install a coolant crossover via braided lines & associated fastners, will this cure the problem?

My 90 had a coolant bypass from the factory in the back of the intake next to the distributor. My Miniram did not. I did not want to just plug the stock lines, so I drilled, tapped, and threaded in a pair of brass nipples to the back of the miniram intake, took them into a Y connector and fed that right into the stock coolant bypass.

Does this make any difference? I have no idea. I do know that it would bleed air off the top of the engine faster.

Now, the minram runs hotter by the t/b because of the one piece design. In other words, heat travels through and stays longer as the casting is much thicker than the old L98 intake. This is just my opinion, but I believe you will feel like the intake is getting hotter as it is a more direct path, and thicker metal that will retain the heat longer. I know my intake seems to stay hot for a very long time, but it does not seem to be a performance issue.

so your saying your miniram car runs hotter by the throttle body with the coolant crossover in place?

Humm...mine runs cooler by the throttle body, but then again I did not keep my hand on the manifold that long to verify from front to back of the manifold.

I have seen tests done on temperature of the throttle body, and I know on the LT1, even when it is cold outside it will run over 100 degrees. This is why it is perfectly safe to do the throttle body bypass to begin with.

also, i completely agree with 69MyWay.... The L98 intake is not bolted right on top, it has the runners going up, and the intake is essentially suspended over the top by the runners. This should really help the heat travel away from the intake and into the air better than the LT1 setup.

you guys are proabbly right. I did not really consider the length of the tpi runners, even the JL1 with its shorter runners.

Guess i'll leave it alone for now since I have no reason to pull the manifold.
