I have seen in some of the threads where some folks are running turbo 400's in C4 models. How is this done? I am looking for a "inexpensive" way of replacing my 4+3 and have a turbo 400 available.
Thanks,
Jim
Overdrive isn't a concern. It will be more of a Saturday night brawler.(Hopefully). I was hoping that perhaps somebody made a bolt on tailhousing that would allow the tourqe arm to be bolted on.
i'm not sure but i'll ask 2 of my buddies that have C4's and did this swap from M6's. i do know the tranny well needs to be widend because i wont' fit properly. plus everything that vader said
I put the th400 in my formerly 700r4 car. I did go with the Gear Vendors unit too tho. Take a look at my web site, I have a page about it there. I don't think you would have to do anything to make it fit. The th400 fits in easier than the 700r4 did. I know this for sure because it is much easier to access the fluid lines on the side of the tranny on the th400 than it was on my 700r4. I think there is somebody talking about making a bracket or different tailshaft housing to attach a torque arm to but don't know much about that.
Thanks, jdm. I put in a B&M Megashifter that is made for console install on f-body's from something like '82-92 I think. I had to take apart the console a bit and get it bolted in and then I had to do some cutting of the console trim pieces a bit. The cheap rubber boot that comes with the shifter doesn't fit. I need to have a nice leather one made but I just havn't gotten around to it yet. I had an interior guy look at it and he said he could make me one for $50. The shifter is in the perfect position for fast easy shifting. The picture makes it look a bit high but after driving it like this I can tell you it's perfect. Others that have driven my car like it here also.
It does seem high, but I bet your hand just falls naturally in place. I am replacing the 4+3-- so do you think I can use the lines from the overdrive for the cooler lines on the th400?
I'm guessing that the lines won't attach in the same place, which means you would have to do some bending/cutting to get them to fit the th400. I don't know how big the cooler is for the 4+3. I bet it's not as big as you will need for the th400 tho. I think I would start fresh with a new cooler and lines. It's not that big of a deal. Does the 4+3 cooler go through the radiator? Those arn't much of a cooler I don't think. I don't use the cooler in the radiator. I just use a large B&M Supercooler for my tranny. Works great.
I have a stock depth pan on mine. I don't think I would want a deep pan. Too close to the ground. I also prefer to use a steel pan over aluminum. In case you hit the ground the steel is more likely to dent than crack open like aluminum.
