84 Vette with the Z51 pkg.
While putting in new at fulid in my overdrive I found the od was overfilled and when I checked the trans it was low. Just wondering if there is a gasket or seal between them and how much of a job it is to replace. Both the trans and OD work fine.
Thanks

There is a seal between them, and it's supposed to be a bear to replace. However, Ken on the forum says it's actually OK to run ATF in your manual transmission. It'll be a bit noisier, but there will be no issue about the two units "sharing fluids."

I use Dexron/Mercon IIIE in my ROD 6-speed.

A few years ago, in order to meet new high temperature oxidation stability tests and operate at extremely low temperatures, most ATFs were completely reformulated. Wear patterns won't suffer as long as you keep it clean and change the fluid regularly.

Update

An update on my trans problems. Filled both the od and trans with syn Mobil 1 atf and noticed no extra noise although its pretty hard to here any unusual noise due the the comp ta tires (I think snow tires make less noise.). An added benefit is that the trans shifts very smooth now. Was wondering about how the od feels about being overfilled (liquid seeks its own level), do I have to worry about blowing seals or worse? I want to thank the list and everyone who responded, Its really nice to have fellow Corvette owners to turn to.
Again thanks
Lowell
