Trans Temp Gauge

Hey everyone as you may know I'm rebuilding my trans again... I'm looking to add a trans Temp gauge anyone do this? I have been looking at a couple of different gauge makers.. I want an electric setup that uses the temp sender.. now here is my question they seem to either come with or require a sender that threads into something they say they are NPT threads I'm not shure what that means I would think it may mean something like normal pipe thread but I'm not shure second where could I get a T- fitting to install one of those senders I want to put it in on the trans line up at the radiator.

Here is a second question what about the fuel pressure gauge that is electricle with the sender anyone install one of those?

Rick when I worked for auto zone part time we kept a really good selection of brass fittings of all sizes behind the counter. One of the counter guys should be able tohelp fix you up with what you need. I think you will probably need an adabter and a T but should be able to do this without having to even cut the line. You're right, 95's have the digital trans temp display. Just hit the gauges button till it pops up.

Weird because I thought mine had that too.. but it never pops up when I "Scroll" through my digital gauges. just have oil temp, coolant temp, and voltage... thats it? is there something wrong with my dash? or was that just an option because I do know that inside the trans on the pressure manifold or pressure switch assm. what ever you want to call it people have diff names for it.. there is a temp sensor built in.. I vaguely remmber seeing it on the scan tool aswell.. let me know because that is weird to me I've heard that before that you should have trans temp in the IP..

I also understood the 95 & 96 autos came w/ the trans temp.
If you get the electr. one here is what the sending unit
from Autometer looks like:

This one mounts in line.
There are 2 different part numbers, the difference is the fitting sizes depending on what size your trans lines are.
I think I still have this one around somewhere , I don't remember which fittings it has in it but you're welcome to it if you like.

so is it 94-96, or 95-96 autos that had the tranny temp? I know it was standard, on autos only, I just don't remember when they started it... It also could have been a mid 1994 change as well

LoL still doesn't explain why my 95 doesn't have it... was it an option or standard mine was made 11/95...

Thanks Nick, I'll let you know if I need them.. I'm still trying to decide which gauges to buy I'm looking at autometer.. but nothing seems to match my dash well.. I'm kinda starting to think about going with the Autometer Phantom series but we'll see...

One other issue i have is I started installing my little Hayden Trans Cooler.. (reason why is because my trans was getting pretty hot.. maybe thats why it failed who knows.... anyway.. you could feel the trans temp through the hump in the floor when i was driving it a little agressive anyway during my install which is on going untill i make up some brackets I had tried to bend the cooler line going into the radiator the upper cooler line that is and I kinked it alittle.. I'm shure I can work something out though to make this all work once i get the sender setup and see what i have to deal with exactly.. because I was just going to the the upper cooler like and put a flare on it and run a hose from it to the cooler and from the cooler to the radiator.. The new cooler came with a fitting to thread into the radiator cooler so you can put a hose on it.. anyway.. thats about it for now I think I'm gonna go look at some gauges.. I think i will stick with the vac and trans temp.. though fuel pressure is imprtant to me too.. i think the vac gauge would be easier to install and I want both.. but ya can't have it all...

Rick, I had the Phantom series gauges in my Camaro, they're very nice, good choice.
Also here is where I mounted my trans cooler:

That's a B&M.
I have the fittings/hoses toward the top, just ran them up and around to the radiator and used the fittings supplied with the kit. The brackets were also in the kit, just bent them.

Yea thats how i was going to mount mine.. I bought a small one.. I think it's like 11 * 5 or something it's a hayden they make the best trans coolers period.. so good alot of OE manufactures use them from the factory..

The 95 Automatic equiped cars came with the trans temp guage standard. Its even listed in the owners manual.

I dont have an owners manual :crazy but when I scroll throught it it doesnt like Auto or anything just oil temp, coolant temp and volts.

The 94 did not come with the temp guage. Maybe your car is a very early 95. The last vin #s of my car are 104372 and it was built in September of 94. Is you vin "lower" ?

Did you by chance change your CCM? I changed my CCM and didn't reprogram it like it says to in the service manual. Everything works except the trans temp gauge.

I didn't change anything but the previous owner could have... CCM? do you mean the Power Train Control Module? or something elese? whats the reprogramming proceedure involve?

The CCM is in the dash behind the radio. It stores the mileage for the odometer, controls the interior lights, radio, locks, etc. According to the service manual, the programming procedure involves a Tec 1. I've never done it so I don't know the exact procedure. Take it to a dealer and have them reprogram it.
