Transmission huntin for a gear Need help please

Hello am Matt and new to the fourm I got a 1994 red coupe that I bracket race every week the car run 8.21 to 8.26 depends on track condition but every once in awhile the car will hunt for secound gear later on in the night it's like after u jump on the converter hard to preload the car at the light the car is bone stock beside x pipe and intake and radials anybody know what could cause this I could use the help thanks
