How do I check the transmission fluid? If it is low how do I add or change fluid?

Its a 4 speed manual on a 74' L82 350.

There is a "fill" plug on the side. Fluid should be up to this plug. To add, just pour into this hole. But that can be hard. Put fluid into something that you can squeeze, then add a hose going to the hole and squeeze it into the transmission until it starts to run out.
