hello, i posted a few weeks back about my poor dyno results and have thought about all options to get the most out of my 383. im leaning towards a supercharger for the simplest but not cheapest route. the other options were either turbo, diffrent intake and or heads. out of the 4 what would yall suggest? trying to achive close to 400hp. specs are `90, stroker 383, bullet racing cam 503/510 valve lift, center force2 clutch, ram air, msd 6a iginition, headman long tube headers, borla out back. stock intake, injectors, fuel pressure. the car had an after market chip in it when i bought it before i stroked it. oh yea heard a lot of rumbling under the car and checked it out this morning turns out it had a high flow cat converter and all the insides broke up. so i un bolted the muffler side and started the car and blew most of it out on the ground the rest i broke up and dug out. so seems iv got a gutted cat for now. thanks for your time and input.

i would get an ATI supercharger but thats just me. sounds like alot is done to your car maybe it just needs to be profeshionally(sp) tuned to get the most out of the parts you have.

What's probably killing your performance is your stock intake. If you want big horsepower, you'll never get it with the stock intake runners. Instead of the supercharger or Turbo which will be about $3500-$4000 if you do the work yourself, try getting a TPIS Miniram or equivalent hi-flow intake manifold intake on there, then get some dyno tuning done. I'll bet you'll be real happy then, and only drop around $1000-$1500.

Also, I believe SLP and a few others sell some bigger runners and lower/upper manifold, which might even be cheaper but still flow well.

As stated here, the stock TPI setup only flows 200cfm per runner. Not near enough for 400HP N/A.

You put a Superram and a 219 cam in that thing, youll be pushing 440hp.

The SR and 219, new, should not be more than $2000.
The 74219 cam by itself is like $300-350, the SR base is $450 and the plenum/runners is like $700. You can get this all cheaper on Ebay.

SUPERCHARGER

I spoke with a guy at ATI for a supercharger for my vette C3,
with a 96 LT4, he swore up and down this unit would work in my C3, reverse type 93 to 96 vette's, well i'm getting one for my 91
TRANS AM GTA, L89 to. they are claiming that a 90 stock corvette
L89 with their unit, CAN EDGE OUT A ZR-1. WITH NO MOD'S.
I would like to see that in person, If I knew how to post this ad
of theirs I would. I am sitting here looking at it with both car's at the track. I know it sound's crazy, but give them a call. I just want the extra shove for the supercharge mustang, on my GTA.
My C3 is my COBRA-R KILLER. Good luck.

PS. edge out on the 1/4 mile track

Heads and Intake!

that car will never make the HP you want with that stock intake.

even with 10 lbs of boost. for every 1 lbs of boost = roughly 20 hp on a good flowing car.

get the intake and heads leave everything else the same. 2500 bucks then if your not satisfied get the supercharger. with the heads and intake you'll get, more than likely, 120-150 hp out of your car! your probably running a 48 mm tb also. upgrade that to a 52mm tb and do the heads and intake can't go wrong!

no matter how much a supercharger company says it will make. it won't plain and simple. your setting yourself up for another let down. if the sc can't push the air thru the motor your not going to make their claimed hp #.

if the heads and intake don't do it for ya and you don't want the supercharger throw a 200 shot NAWSSS setup on it. :D

BTW depending on how much compression your making depends on how much Boost you can run Safely

Good luck.

PS this info goes for 81LT4,
your idea of a SC for your LT4 motor would more than likely make some serious HP but in your stock L98 TA your going to have the same problems. can't imaging spending the money for only 120hp gain cause i doubt you'll see 200 if you run 10lbs of boost. 240+120=360hp = 4000 bucks for SC spend the 2500 for the heads, intake, cam and 52mm TB and that thing will run like a bat out of hell! plus your get the same 360 hp. 600 more bucks gets you a 200 shot of nitrous. rule of thumb running nitrous is 1/2 your stock hp rating. so if your at 240hp 120hp is about as high as you want to go on a stock bottom end. but now your pumping 480 hp and that will smoke most ZR-1's and just about anything else.

also, what goes in must come out, hows that exhaust system of yours?

and leave the NOS to 4 bangers cause it doesn't belong on american muscle.

Think about that statement for a second or two, then take a look at Hot Rod Magazine or Super Chevy or Chevy High Performance and see if you still feel that way about nitrous. ;)

yeah really.

look at prostreet cars in NMCA. you might change your mind :D theres nothing the matter with alittle go juice to run faster ;)

It is only a matter of money

I also was searching for the right solution and setup. Looking for power, durabilitiy and ofcourse the price. There are a lot of solutions you can do, but here I give you some awnsers wich I have found, maby it is a help for you too.

First: weight is los of power
Second: boost more then 6 psi and your air temp will rise too much and hightemp is also loss of power
thirt: turbo's are twice as expencive as supercharging

My solution: I will use a LS1 off road block, a Vortech kit with aftercooler and boost 8 psi. In combination with a highflow manifold and longtube headers, I hope for 560 hp. And the loss of weight will made my vette run 225 MPH :D

fourt: aftercoolers are better than intercoolers, the temp says more stabel, so you will have no powerloss (this was tested this year on a Maseratie, two aftercoolers instead of turbo's)

thanks for all the input. when the time comes i will get a supercharger. but for now iv ran across a killer deal on a super ram set up complete with fuel rails, 30 something pound injectors, 58mm tb and fuel regulator for $1,100. used of course is that a nasty deal or what?
