Okay, I was just out for a cruise, and in the middle of the trip, the turn signal stopped working. Then it would start blinking REAL quick, then REAL slow, then stop working again. This would just keep doing it.

This same thing happened over the summer, but seemed to have fixed itself. But, it has arisen again today. Could it be the flasher? But, then why has it been working again for months until today? And, would the flasher stop the whole light, or just stop the blinking? Because, with this problem, not only was there no "blink", but the light wasn't even on.

Any ideas?

The power for the turn signals comes through the flasher first before it gets to the turn signal switch; if NONE of the exterior turn signal lamps and neither of the indicators in the cluster are working at all, I'd go after the flasher first - they're only a couple of bucks. You want the one under the dash, not the one in the fuse block (the one in the fuse block is for the hazards). If your hazard flashers work, that's a good sign.

I think I see what you mean, John. So if my flasher is no good, then the circuit to the blinker lights is no good, so they won't light at all...?

I'll change out this flasher, I know where it is. But where can I get a replacement? Can I just take it to the local automotive store and they will have it? Or does my '78 have something "special" for a flasher?

Thanks! :D

personaly i would call up your local napa or autozone and check....
if not you may have to get through dealer

Ehh...I called up my local Chevy dealer and he told me that they only had parts of C4s and up. Maybe it was that specific exaust part, or maybe he was blowing me off.

And, I never had to take a flasher out before. Does it just "unplug"? It is a bit of a tight spot under the passenger's side dash, so I should go under there with an idea how the flasher comes out. :)

Thanks! :D

well im only 16 and don't have a vette.. am fasinated and love to work on cars just don't got the money. So I can't help ya too much on how it comes out or where it is located. I did my friends (1999 chevy S-10 4x4) and it was a plug kinda by the fuse box. it was real easy.. it may be somethin like that. I sugest going in and just takin a look.

This is what you should have

I know what it looks like. I did look under the dash. I just needed to know the fit, and the Assembly Manual makes it look like a simple connector.

Thanks, I'll change out the flasher ASAP and then get back with results/more questions. :)

Well, how do I "specify" which I need? Is there a number? There is one in my '78 Assembly Manual, but those numbers don't seem to hold up any more (had called about previous parts with those numbers, couldn't even cross-reference them).

Maybe I should just take it out, and bring the bad flasher and they can match me with a new one...?

Thanks! :D

Nothing special about it - just an ordinary turn signal flasher - take the old one with you and they can cross-reference it for you.

Okay, I'm going to go and see if I can get it today. Thanks!
