Hi everyone,

I have a 1981 two-tone Autumn Red/Dark Claret 80/98. The paint code inside the door shows it as U80 L80 Autumn Red. Does that mean my two-tone is not a factory two-tone? Autumn Red does not show up in the black book as a color that was offered as a solid. Can anyone help me on this. I've just ordered my build sheet from NCM but it'll take 4 to 6 weeks to get it and I was hoping someone may know the answer.

Thanks

Doug

Doug,

I've got the same car, same numbers and a build sheet stating the same. Not sure why the number difference....the factory figured it out in the paint booth apparently. The best color combo of course!

John,

Do you mean by same number, that the car and build sheet show it as 80/80?

Does anyone with a two-tone car have color codes showing different colors for upper and lower? I'm more confused than ever.

BTW the striping kits for 1981 and 1982 two tone cars are available at Eckler's and elsewhere.

I dont know why this is either but there are many cars like this.I know that during the assembly of the car it is treated as a casr that is going to be one color and at the end of the assembly line it goes to a paint shop to add the second color.

On the build sheet block #79 color, lists 80 LW, 80 UP, 98 ST

In section 107 where the options are listed:
Z05 Two Tone Paint
77A Red Stripe
80L Aut Red Met
80U Aut Red Met
98M Dk Clar Accen

What it all means is probably shoot the whole thing #80 Autumn Red first and then it is send back for the #98 lower accent.

Ok now it makes some sense. Thanks John and Paint Daddy, I'll wait for my build sheet to make sure it's a real two tone. I wasn't going to paint it a two tone before because the striping wasn't available. But the other day I decided to research it again and found a company called pheonix graphix (pheonixgraphix.com) that makes the striping kits for both 1981 and 1982 two tones and also Eckler's has it (#45442 for my car). Oh, yes John the two tone red is the best ;-)Thanks
Doug
