Type of Leather used for Seats?

Anyone know what leather is used for the seats in a 1995 LT1? I got this leather conditioner that I would like to use on my seats but there are specific types it is not to be used for. I looked through all my books but I can't seem to find the type of leather used.

The leather top covers on the sport seats in my 96 LT4 were cow hide.

They are coated leather if that's what you mean. Most automotive leather products will work fine. What's the product you have that is giving you pause?

It's called "Leather Mate". The instructions say "do not" use on suede. sheepskin, pig skin, lambskin, newbuck, buckskin or soft porous leathers. I have a pair of boots that were pretty ragged and this stuff cleaned and softened them right up like new.

Yes, your leather is not suede or porous. It should be ok to use. Though I'd suggest something made for automotive leather to be on the safe side. And I'd suggest trying it on a test spot on a bottom edge of the seat or something first.

Unless your seats are different then mine are C4C5specialist told me you never actually clean the leather since they are painted leather seats. A local car detailer, and a guy I bowl with recommended waterless handcleaner with lanolin. This is by far the best cleaner for seats, and interior parts I have ever seen, and it doesn't make everything look greasy like all the other cleaners. Plus it makes the huge steering wheel I have very soft.

I believe the type is called "cheap crap"

Clean with mild soap (liquid handsoap is good) and water, then use the conditioner you have.
