Ultra High Performance tire options - what is out there??

So 90Callaway, Callaway4Fun, and Kruzmisl all are using the D3's, hmm... Sounds like a popular choice :cool

The tread pattern of the D3's are very, very similiar to the Yokohama AVS Sports that I run on my SNAT

Looks like I finaly narrowed it down to these two...

Aside from a $130 difference per tire in price, is there something (big) I am missing???

I was always extremely happy w/ the old BFG TA/ZR's which the KDW's replaced - and look similar to.

I plan on making the call today :cool

Thanks in advance for any input "m

BFG BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW : $145 / tire

Hey Chris, I haven't gotten tires yet either, but I would just suggest you consider the g-Force T/A KD instead. The KDW is supposedly less grippy overall. Since you are looking at the F1 Supercar instead of the F1 GS-D3, you might want to look at the KD instead of the KDW:

FWIW, I contacted BFGoodrich previously, and the g-Force KD in 275/40-17 is made in the US. (Not all sizes of a tire are always made the same place).

Aurora, my only reluctance withthose tires is that I thought they might be "too grippy" and that would take a toll on the paint :eek

I used to run BFG TA R1's and they lasted about 7k on the street while flinging rocks & dirt the whole time...

I think the KD's last about the same, or slightly more - What do you think??

What car are they going on? It's my impression the KD's and SuperCars are similar in terms of overall dry grip, not really compromising for wet handling, and fairly short tread life. The Supercars have a 220 treadwear rating, the KD's a 200.

But if you don't put a lot of miles on the car, and 10,000 miles means 5+ years, then a short-tread-life tire might be better. That way they don't last so long that they are old and hard.

That said, the SuperCars seem like the ultimate street tire upgrade for a Corvette. If they cost the same I'd go with them no question, but I'm wondering which is really more worth the money, and am leaning towards the g-Force KD's. The 315/35 SuperCars are freaking expensive.

They are going on the trailer king - With that in mind, the KDW's @ $145 per tire almost make them disposable tires when they only see another 400 miles in the next 5 years, right ;)

They are all "Y" speed rated and I do not race, or otherwise "push" the car - like I do with the other Corvettes we have so a slight tradeoff in grip isn't a big deal - As I mentioned before, the tires (like the TA R1's) really sandblast your paint :eek

What do you think??? :m

That sounds good then! But you might compare them to F1 GS-D3's then, as they have a Y-rating, all-weather capability, and are $206. It still sounds like the KDW's would be the way to go though, unless the appearance/tread pattern or brand mattered.

Bob, I do think the tread pattern somewhat matches the old Gatorback pattern I have on the 16 y/o tires on the car now...

Thanks for your thoughts on the matter - I had originally planned on going w/ the Supercar tires but cannot seem to justify the differences in price for a car that isn't really driven at limits - unless you consider pulling it in the back of the trailer @ 70+++ ;)

Thanks again! :m

Are these for the red car? If so...have fun getting those dymags off! ;)

I know, I know...

Fortunately, the previous wner had taken them off one before for awhile - remember the yellow A-Molds??? :ugh

BTW - just got back from the Chev. Dealer - $375 / tire for FI SC Gd"Yrs :ugh

ANyways, at least you didn't say I needed these...

Bob, on impulse, I asked while at the dealership today - My wife's jeep shattered the (plastic) p/s pulley off and I wanted to fix it myself, rather than be gouged by the (Jeep) Stealership - bought the part at a Chev. / Chrysler Dealer ;) 20 bucks :cool

Sharon - good stuff :cool

I liked this part of the description:
exceeds the needs of the Corvette driver in almost all conditions, snow excluded, b/c who drives a Vette in the snow?

Snow, heck, my car doesn't even (really) see dry pavement :W ;) :m - Chris

Tire Rack was closed the other day after I procrastinated about the matter for most of the day :(

My amazing wife came to the rescue however, ordering the TA KDW's for the car today :cool

They'll be here tomorrow, UPS dependant :ugh

Both the 89's need different tires in the spring! I've been debating between Eagle F1 SC's and BFG G-Force KD's Both are good dry weather tires but leaning slightly towards BFG's because seem to look slightly better on C-4's ?? Have no idea which is quieter?? :beer Ike

I always thought BFG made a nice tire - never had noise issues in the past w/ the old TA ZR's and these are their replacements :cool

The GoodYears, as installed on the Corvette Z06, I thought were a bit louder - on a Z06 the noise can be :crazy however, the tradeoff is better dry grip I hear :lou

Tires just arrived - I will be having them mounted on Friday - 1/2 day @ work ;)

- I did note they have what looks to be a "rim guard" cast into the rubber sidewall - do these really protect as it suggests, or is it a gimmick??

Thanks for ALL who replied and offered insight :cool
