Ultra-rare 1976 Vette?

Sorry, I've been sick with collitus. But I did talk to the guy about it and he said it came from the factory red, whit, and blue. All i have to do is talk him into letting me see it and take pictures. When this happens, I will post the pics. Sorry again for taking so long to get back to you.

Also provide some sort of evidence that it came from the factory that way and not done by some upholstery shop which as been the case with every other R/W/B car.

And then there's this, from one of them "Wall Street Journal" types...
"In 1976, GM took the unprecedented step of creating a bicentennial edition of the Corvette, producing only one Corvette for each Chevrolet dealer. Soon after the announcement was made, demand for these limited-edition Corvettes exploded. Not having the vehicles in hand, each dealer began selling contracts for these cars. These “futures” contracts sold at huge premiums since there was only a limited number of Corvettes produced. Obviously, GM underestimated demand by limiting supply, and early buyers capitalized on GM’s decision to limit production."<edited><editid>Adams' Apple</editid><editdate>2007-04-19 20:07:58</editdate></edited>
Here is where I found it: INFO - Forums - Official C3 Vette Registry - Corvette C3 Registry

I'm pretty good with a search and the above is the reference to a 1976 bicentennial Corvette, so far.

Edit:
The longer I look, the more I doubt it.

One per dealer would mean quite a few cars. Funny how nobody can produce a picture of one nor quote a simple RPO number. I found what might be the original article

The author is confused and I believe was thinking of the 1978 Pace Cars instead. The guy on that other Corvette site just copy pasted the inaccurate story- and another legend is born. :eyerole

One per dealer would be more than enough to find some evidence online. Agreed and X2 to your post. A legend was born and the web can spread them fast. When I hit disbelief, I stop searching and I stopped. Although, I was around in the late 1960s when GM (COPO), Baldwin and Yenko (plain vanilla cars with big power and their own decals ;)) had a field day with high prices and serious street machinery.

There was a mention of some "Kentucky Colonel" but if it is true and I doubt it, unless a dealer hooked the "Colonel" up to the cash milking machine.

My .02: If Chevrolet had any type of special trim for bicentennial 76 Corvettes, one or more of them would have shown up by now.

:)

Well, I'm back and still sick. However I do have some news on the bicentennial corvette. JUST A MYTH. I found out that the corvette this guy has is a 1979. He had it repainted red, white and blue after he bought it. It was for a client of his. The client forfeited on a deal they had so he took the vette back. His kids drove it for a few years and it's been sitting ever since. Like over 30 years without ever being started. So there you have it. I really thought I had something there but I was wrong. I am so sorry for leading you astray. I happened to still be sick so I have to go. Dutch the man

PS: Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
