Who'da thunk tires could make such a difference? I replaced the Goodyears with Firestone FireHawks and was stunned. My stereo does have volume!! My teeth don't rattle at speed!! Compared to the FireHawks, those Goodyears were like wooden wagon wheels. Life is GOOD!!! BTW, we're headin' south to the Keys and back up via Bowling Green. Is one day enough to do the museum and factory?

One day is plenty of time . The museum is good for a couple of hours and the factory tour is a little less . Both are well worth doing ! Cliff

Don't forget to keep an eye out for some stray C6 parts laying around outside the factory. Sounds like a great time. How do the firestones compare to the looks? Sidewall highth the same? I've noticed some manufacturers tired vary with the same size?
I still have goodyears and I've been playing around with tire pressure to help the ride with minor changes.

You solved the dreaded GoodYear noise/ride problem. For whatever reason, the GY GSC's used on the C4 and F1's used on the C5 seem to get harder and nosier as they wear. I fixed the problem on my 92 with Pilot Sports and I love them. Like you, many people have found the Firestone tires to be very good also.

I'm wondering if the new GY D3 tire has addressed these problems but I've got to wait until someone wears them out first.

Be all means, see the NCM and the plant. Plant tours are not open on the weekends, so plan accordingly. As already mentioned, keep an eye out all around for C6 parts and pieces while in the plant - sometimes new stuff is left laying around where anyone can see it -- you just got to be looking in the right place.

You probably won't see any C6 stuff (the lines just switched to making '04 C5's and the mules are in Michigan and elsewhere being tested) but you'll see TONS of XLRs. For a Caddy, they're not bad.

Replaced the Goods with Firehawks on the 98 C5. Liked the Goodyears better. However, two weeks after the install, the Firestone Ford Explorer media circus started and that might have played into my reaction to the tires.

FireHawk SZ50EP, got them at the rack (which, by the way, I discovered here). I hear ya about the Explorer debacle. I was a life long fan of Goodyear until Firestone took the rides away from them at Indy and then the noise and crappy ride on my 'Vette forced me to look elsewhere. There are probably lots of tires out there that will give a better ride with MUCH less noise. However, I did a bunch of research and talked with other people, and decided on the FireHawks.

Delay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HI

l just read an article last week that the XLR's are being delayed.

Alan

Maybe they're being delayed, but the assembly line is putting them out like mad. You can see the body panels in the paint department, and near-finished bodies during the tour. There was one out front on display, too, with a GM watchdog who was putting the top up and down and such.
