After reading the informative radar discussions here, I ordered and recieved my V1 today. I don"t plan to drive like a wild man but getting tickets is just too easy and the insurance surcharges are way too much. My question is can the radars (car) or lasers ground detect if you are operating a detector such as the V1. My thoughts are if they know you are using a detector they would be less inclined to let you off say 5mph over like they generally seem to do. Sure do enjoy the forum, and thanks in advance for any replies. Maybe another month before the snow fly"s up here and she rests for the winter.

I'm interested in seeing the answers to your question. I've read so many great things about the V1 and it's very highly regarded. Last I checked, they were $400.00. Are they still that same price?

Yep, same price. Had a cheapie before so we shall see. Still picks up a lot of false signals, but much easier to interprete then before. Think it is probably worth it.

I have one, got it in just before my only real trip in the Vette so far. About 600 miles round trip.

It does seem to pick up alot of false signals!:( Most of which seemed to be constuction area sites.

It might have saved me twice? ;) One time I am sure of, as I was doing 90 on cruise, and jumping up to 100+ At times when it went off. I slowed, and found the boogey a little while later traveling in the oppisite direction. The 2nd time was night and was in an area that I know runs traps! I was only a bit over limit, but slowed to be sure. Never saw a boogey? But it was dark! :L On return trip, in the same area. I had again slowed to just above limit. As I pulled out to pass it went off!!!! would have been to late for me to do anything about it, if I was way over! I pulled back in behind, and sure enough I spotted the man! Not a place you want to speed in for sure!

In this area I have seen double digit# of folks pulled over!:mad And I do not mean through traveling the road over time! But at one time just passing through there!

I was hit with the radar in an area that has trees on both sides of the road, no turn offs, nothing! The Man, hides on an over pass!:mad I only know that as when the detector went off I started to look real hard!;) And there he was, hidden in a bunch of trees (car was in trees), he was standing on the bridge! They then radio ahead and you get pulled over, a mile or more down the road! :mad

This **** should be Illegal!! :cry

passed two of the deputy patrol on the way back home after the evacuation for IVAN..
one was shooting at the top of the hill(didnt see him till ya were coming down a steep one and up the next) and his buddy was pointed the other way to chase ya down...

Which unit was it? Buddy of mine was saying how all detectors are "garbage." I asked him which unit he had and he said, "It was over $100 and I bought it at Wal Mart." I told him that was a kids toy and the Escorts and V1's are the real things.

I just may invest in one early next year after my engine rebuild. You know, just in case.:D

I have the Escort 7500. Worth it weight in gold! Saved me from many tickets over the last 2 years.

Most radar detectors have the ability to go almost undected. I doubt that having one or not will influence a cop to be more or less forgiving as to how much over the limit he will allow. Detectors or so common place today.

The police in my area can set their radar guns to a specific speed, and not beep unless you are going that speed or above, for example 80 in a 65 zone.
