Valve cover holes?

The valve covers on my engine have two holes in the passenger side (oil filler and PVC). The drivers side has none. Why does every aftermarket cover I have seen (that says it will fit my car) have two holes in one and one hole in the other? What is the extra hole for? What would I do with it if I purchased the covers?

I believe that's because there are so many different applications for them that the manufaturer is just trying to cover all bases.

Edelbrock sells plugs for several sizes of those holes.

On some SBC's, like the L98, there's a PCV on one side and the oil cap and breather hose on the other. Non-smog SBCs I've seen have two breathers, one per side - small round things that look a lot like a miniature chromed carb air filter setup.

If you're thinking about replacing the valve covers on the 1992, be aware that the AC/alternator support bracket may have to be replaced by one for the 93-96 MY.

In 1992, this bracket has just enough curve to clear the 92 valve cover. The 93-96 black covers are about 1/4" taller and require a bracket with more curve. Many after market covers may be taller than the 92 cover (like the 93-96) and require the newer bracket.
