i have a 1978 corvette with a new sbc crate engine. i am running it as a performance motor and not original so i don't have all the smog stuff on it to worry about. my question is can i remove the vapor canister and all the vacuum lines to it? i am in illinois and there are no smog regulations. i am trying to clean up the engine compartment and remove any lines not necessary.

Take it off

I removed the canister and all vacuum lines on my 79. No problem.

Remember to plug the source vacuum line.

Thanks cleon. Just so I know exactly what I am removing is it the canister on the driver side of car near the firewall under the brake booster down low? Under the cruise control unit?

Yes, that is the vapor canister. Keeping it installed will not hurt performance and will help with venting and burning off fuel fumes.

vacuum lines

thanks...i just want to remove all lines that are not neccesay. sounds like i can remove it and clean up the mess of lines.

diagram

Does anyone have a diagram to show what hoses go where or can someone explane. Some of the lines are cracked and brittle and or not on the canister.

I would definitely keep the vapor canister system working since it collects the fuel vapors and burns them while driving. If you feel like throwing away money/gas then remove it.
