vapour canister hoses

Hey there,

While poking about my '72 I noticed that the vapour (charcoal) canister had two of its three hoses disconnected. What I need to know is where to connect up those 2 hoses.

The hose that is still connected goes to the PCV and then to the carb.

One of the two is supposed to go to the fuel tank via a steel line, but both hoses reach that line. One hose is thicker than the other (same size as the PCV hose), and it's my guess that this is the line that goes eventually to the fuel tank. Is that correct? (The smaller diameter hose looks like it could fit the steel gas tank line, with enough prodding.)

The other disconnected hose is suppose to go where? I saw a pic that showed it going to the carb, I think, but this hose is not long enough -- of course, it could have been cut. There is a port on the front of the carb that is currently just blocked off. Is this final canister line a vacuum line?

Oh, the small diameter hose has a white stripe down its side.

Final question... is there supposed to be a cap on the bottom of the canister, and if it is not there, will the canister still work?

Thx.

JMP, I just finished working on my 72 LT-1 the larger hose goes to the PVC valve as you stated. It then continues off the tee to the large vacuum pipe on the right side toward the rear of the Holley carb (continuous vacuum). The other smaller hose should connect to the ported vacuum tube on the left side toward the front. (vacuum only above idle). The small tube on the front toward the right under the bowl is contuous vacuum for the choke and A.I.R system. The third connection on the canister is the vapor input from the fuel tank as you stated. There should be a lower cover on the canister that is removed to give access to the replacable canister filter. Sounds like you are missing the cover and probably the internal filter?????

Thanks Bullshark. I believe the filter is actually still in place. At least when I reach up to the bottom of the canister I touch something that feels filter like!
