VATS Codes

Does anyone have access to the resistance/VATS code information? I need to order a second key from Ecklers but will need to translate the resistance measured from the resistor pellet into a VATS code.

They have the key reader there, and can read it in a snap.

Thanks C4C5, but I have an ohm meter and can read it in a snap as well. I just need the corresponding VATS code for the resistance I read. I believe this info is in the shop manual, so if anyone has one (I haven't ordered mine yet) I would appreciate a response.

Hi there,
This is not in the service manual.
Also, you will never get a fixed value, as there is a tolerance for each key of about 150 ohms for each key.
For security reasons, I cannot post values, this would be a risk.

Thanks again. I assumed the resistances would be in the manual as I believe they are in my 95 manual. I realize there would be a tolerance build into the reading as well. This is for my neighbor who only got one key and one fob with his '99 FRC. He was told from the previous owner that the car only came with one key. Is this true? You spend $45k on a car and only get one key and transmitter? I got two with my '99 FRC from the previous owner. I thin he may have only had one as his was a lease vehicle? Does this sound right?

Hi Leon,

I would check to see if Ecklers would measue yours and verify that their new key was within the tolerance.

I purchase a used 2000 that was originally a lease car and it only came with one fob. I have not purchased a two additional fobs. I keep one at work and one at home just to make sure that if I lock my keys in the car I can get in weather I'm at home or work.

If this is the case with lease cars, where do the extra keys and fobs go? Someone has a collection of these things somewhere if new cars come with two.

They probably sell them on ebay. The cd palyer in the rear of my vette was also removed before I bought the car. I purchased my new fobs and a CD player on ebay.

I work in RF design. And grew up in northern NY in Gouverneur, north of Watertown. Small world I say. And I also say that I don't miss the snow.

Hey Gary, does Lockheed do work other than military?? What apps does flir have for civilian use. Myself I work for GDLS, in Michigan.

Hey tankman,
I've been at GDLS for the Tracer Program. All of the FLIRs we make here are very high end and are for military usage. Low end FLIRs are in some of the high end cars, but I don't truly see the need, unless you want to drive around with your lights off.
