Ok, i got a new set of sbc pulleys to find that the pilot was different on my brand new weiand pump. well got a matching pulley and the length of the shaft was different(longer). ok so i had to ditch the nice pump and get a Jegs brand pump built for a vette. well it was the wrong length too. so now im mad, and i end up getting a stock replacment new. it fits and the pulley pilot fits, but the bolt pattern on the pulley is only the outer four bolts. and the pump only has the hols for the inner four. well, i need a water pump pulley. not a stock cast one, i really want an aluminum one, and 213$ for a set of march is a little high for me...... unless someone knows a place where i can get just the matching perfect fit w/p pulley. any brand, anything, i want my baby to run!!!! help!!!!!

Sounds like you might have to break down and do the March Pulleys. They are expensive, but very nice looking.

Can you go with a basic under drive pulley set?

ya i can, i think i may have found one that will work, i got a march from a speed shop used for 50$ that he said was for a vette, no. wasnt. but i did get a 2 piece set that works, i just had to drill the pilot otu from 5/8 to 3/4..... one more thing though, i have a k&n "on the TB" filter, the 1000cfm one........ i need a shorter one because of the radiator bracket..... ive seen them on s10's and such, does anyone have a part number for the short one? about 2 inches depth compard to 4-5.......

Corvette water pumps are "weird". They're called 3/4 snout. All of the after market one's are either the short pump or the long pump. "Vettes are in-between the two & alot of the after market aluminum & billett pulleys won't work. Try "billett specialities" for a pulley. If that don't work out, go to plan "B" & try Mr. Gasket (I think they still have an aluminum one that's pretty reasonable. Dave

Not all short (short-legged) pumps are same. All sbc C3 used a short (short-legged) pump. 71 & up have 3/4” pilot shaft and are about 11/64” longer than 70 & back. 70 & back have 5/8” pilot shaft. An 82 should have come from factory with the longer (but still short-legged) pump with 3/4” pilot ... and accompanying pulleys/brackets throughout motor.

If you need to increase size of 5/8” shaft to fit 3/4” hole in pulley, simply use a shortcut length of copper plumbing pipe from hardware as a bushing ... I did w/ Weiand wp pn 8222 on 71 sbc C3 ... many replacement fan clutches come with 3/4” pilot hole but include a bushing for 5/8” pilot shaft ... same thing.

There are two different wp pulley hub bolt patterns ... I dunno which was which. Many performance pumps’ hubs have both patterns.

If you need to move wp pulley foward, simply use a water pump pulley hub shim kit ... I did w/ Weiand wp pn 8222 on 71 sbc C3 ... Mr. Gasket pn 6129 ... about $5 ...shims have both bolt patterns ... comes with two 1/16” shims & one 1/8” shim. Shim(s) fit between wp hub & wp pulley.

If your pump is too long (wp hub too far forward) ... it is possible your 82’s motor may no longer have original vette pulleys/brackets throughout the motor. Or it is possible you are working with a long (long-legged) pump. Long pump will be at least 1” longer than a short pump. Long pump is not correct for sbc C3.

Hey, that's on great lookin' set-up. Is that an aftermarket, or did you put the TPI unit on an older motor? So, what's the lucky "vette" that's gettin' this set-up? Anyway, it's "LOOKIN GOOD"
