not really but last night driving out to charlestown wva to pull some slots the car threw the check engine light on when i fueled up. car was still running good, as i could tell. got out there reset the computer and all seemed fine. it did to seem to idle real rough and once i cleared the codes it seem to smooth out some but it's noticable in the seat and always have been for awhile now that i think back.

so all was good for over 130 miles then tonight it came on again at start up after dinner with my brother. idle was back to being rough but still ran pretty good, as i can tell.

will check the codes soon as i can.

starting to think 02 sensor, (put new one on back in febuary with the header swap.) MAF unit, and or IAC. also still thinking the cold start injector *might* be hanging open cause on start up all i smell is fuel and even after it warms up i smell fuel especially when i'm in back of the car.

i can tell already this is gonna drive me bonkers!

If it's running rough when initially started and it's cold then it's not the O2 sensor. Sensor data wouldn't be used until the engine heated up and it went to closed loop operation.

Strange but true!

This never happened to me in my vette, but has happened in my Jaguar and Volvo.

It seems that when a car is filled up the gas jockey doesn't close the cap with enough clicks to seal the cap properly. This causes air to leak in and causes a malfuntion on the display.

What you have to do is fill up your tank again and make sure you turn the cap at least 5/6 times or until it stops.

This should clear it unless you picked up bad or questionable gas.

Hope this helps.

someone else mentioned this on another forum but i always click it a few times before i shut the hatch but i guess anything is possible but the problems been going on for a good month or 2 now :(

I'll bet its the charcoal canister solenoid going bad. I had that happen to me, I would smell gas outside the car, then the check engine code would pop up.

it's definetly coming from the mufflers as raw fuel not from the engine bay. scanner 3000 and dyno pull with AF will tell all next week ;)

Mad-Mic,
Take the car to a specialist and have your engine scanned / diagnosed. O2 sensors happened to me like 6 months ago. But then the problem of rough idle was not at engine start up. It was getting rough after driving the car for some distance and getting the engine warm... Changed all 3 sensors and problem went away. 95 model has 3 O2 sensors and the car is OBD-I. I was also getting fuel smell inside the cockpit.

Replaced the O2 sensors, changed the gas station. No more problems since then...

I had a similar problem a few years ago and it was the EGR, but until you pull the codes, everything that has been mentioned could be the culprit.

Lots of luck!
