Someone got under the hood of my corvette and cut some wires, busted headlights, etc... I'm pretty sure it was one or more of the 4 punks I caught poaching deer beside my house at 12:30AM Christmas eve. I have reported it to the sherriff's office. Judging from past experience, I doubt they'll do anything about it.:mad :mad :mad

Anyway, I need some advice on how to fix the fuel injector wiring harness. The harness was cut/ripped off at the top of the connector where it plugs into the injector. There's not enough sticking out of the plug to splice onto.

Can I get a new plug assembly with a pigtail? If so, where might one be obtained. I already checked Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts. All I got there were dumb looks.

Free advice: Lock your car even when you park it at your house.

I am not sure where to look for a wiring harness other then eBay where someone may be parting out a C4.....Sorry to hear about the vandals getting to your ride

Wrecking yard? Would an injector harness from a Chevy fit? One of the online Corvette salvage yards? Just some thoughts. Good luck on your repairs. Hope the bad guys are caught and prosecuted.:mad

wilezcoyote...

I can offer no technical/ mechanical suggestions but someone will be along soon that can. I will however express my sympathy on the attack on your Corvette. Punk ba$tard$! :mad I hope that it will be easily repaired and there will not be a repeat of the episode.

I know the temptation is there to pull out a six pack of whoopass, but I hope you'll let the authorities handle it, and I'd pester the hell out of them to see to it they do.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about your malfeasance, Good thing you didn't catch them. Who needs a murder rap!

Good luck!:w

Wilezcoyote,

I'm here in Valdosta, and I spoke to Cox Automotive (they should be in your phone book) over in Moultrie just Friday about a top for mine.....they might be able to help. I was surprised at the size of that place, and they do have Vettes on the yard occasionally.

Side note: I grew up in Tifton (graduated high school there in '88), although I never poached any deer!; parents still live there. I'd be glad to come up & help you poach a few punk vandals sometime!:r

If you're out in the county, I guess you have the awesome:eyerole Sheriff Gary Vowell (clown) & his posse:W on the case. Good luck, though, maybe they'll catch 'em.

Salvage parts

You might try this place and go for an entire harness or sub-harness. I've got some 'strange' but very useful parts from them. They know Corvettes very well too. Credit cards accepted and very prompt shipping.

I am wandering if "1985-91 Fuel Injector Repair Wiring Harness Part# 29173" from Ecklers could help fix your problem? Visit www.ecklers.com and search for the part number.

Cheers,

Selim

Sorry to hear about what happened. I really have to commend you on being civil about it. I would've just went off.:mad

I hope they're caught and face the consequences.

Wow! thanks ya'll

Wow!

I'd like to thank ya'll for the support and the ideas on how to fix my corvette. I'll keep ya posted on how it goes.

Unrelated Sidenote: If your near Amelia Island, Fl around this time in March go to the Concours D'Elegance. It's worth the $35 to see. They had about 10-12 historic Corvettes there today rubbing fenders with the Bugatti's, Ferrari's, etc... The new Z06 is awsome!!

wilezcoyote,

I’m sorry to hear of what happened to your car, I hate to hear of someone doing something like that. It takes a low SOB pull a stunt like that.

I hope that you are able to repair the damage without much trouble.

Glad to help.

I learned a lot from doing the research to find the connectors as they seem to be fairly speciallized in their application. Once I found them, I was surprised how cheap you can buy the MSD connectors for.

The same poaching punks ?

When you caught these punks poaching, did they get turned into the police ? If so, the cops know who they are... if not... well... hopefully their done messing around... Stay on the cops as others have said... or build a garage...

Good luck with your repairs...

update & backstory

I ordered the connectors for the fuel injectors from Eckler's last night. Thanks again for the help on the part sourcing! The express shipping cost 3 times the price of the new plugs. I've already fixed the A/C wiring harness and the headlights. Total cost to fix the damage approximately $100.

Hopefully I'll be back running tommorrow.

The Backstory

Around 12:30 AM Christmas Eve I'm out on the breezeway working and I here a high powered rifle go off very close by. I jump up and run to the east side of the house and see a truck parked approx. 200 meters from the house with a spotlight shining out into the soybean field. I run to the bedroom and grab my AK rifle and hear a second rifle shot. I made it outside in time to see the poacher's truck driving by towards town. A car coming from town had spooked them. I stood in my driveway and watched them turn around as soon as the car from town was out of sight.

I waited for them to drive into the soybean field before I drove my Mountaineer down and blocked the only exit to the field. They turned around and drove up towards me. I had taken up a covered position putting the mountaineer's engine between me and them. When they stopped I "politely" asked them to exit the vehicle and wait for the sheriff's department to collect them. The 3 eighteen year old boys and one girl proceeded to deny, lie, and then whine about what they'd actually been doing.

It took the deputy 45 minutes to arrive and arrest them. I drove down to the sherriff's office to file the charges... The game warden from Valdosta showed up a questioned the punks in question and they confessed to everything. The game warden loaded them up and drove them back up to the farm at 3 AM and made them walk out in the field in the 40 degree rain and drag the deer, a yearling doe, out to the road and load it in his truck.

The losers went to court at the end of January. They pleabargained down the criminal trespass charge and pled guilty to the 2 hunting violations. They forfeited the rifles and the lead moron had to pay about $1000 just to get his mom's truck out of impound. This is all that I gleaned from the court report in the newspaper. The sherriff's office and D.A. don't notify you (the victim) of anything when they prosecute the people you lock up evidently.

About 2 weeks later I was helping my brother and brother-in-law fix the bulldozer we noticed a white chevy Z71 pickup kept driving by kinda slow. When my brother-in-law saw the truck stopped at an intersection 2 miles down the road he started to stop and find out what was going on. The truck saw him slow down and bugged out in a very big hurry.

Two days latter I started the corvette and noticed she was skipping. I figured it was a bad plug wire or plug (they were about due anyway). I ordered MSD wires and Bosch platinum +4s. They arrived a week latter and I replaced all of them except the #2 & 4 cylinders. I noticed the headlight was busted but thought maybe I'd been dinged by a rock on I-75.

This past weekend I got time and finished the job. Thats when I saw the cut injector and A/C wiring and figured out what had happened.

If the peckerwoods come back they'll get caught on one or more of the motion activated game camera's I've put up. The DVR-based box and video cameras should be here next week.

Find out where they live and note the type of vehicles and plate #'s they drive. Then you know who it is that's driving by slowly.

I really commend you on your behavior. It really is unfortunate, but you did the right thing. When an ex girlfriends boyfriend threatened to vandalize my car I filed a police report right away. The idiot left me a voice message on my cell phone, so it was easy to prove. After the police left I called my ex and told her that if anything happened to my car, regardless of who does it that I will come after him with everything I have got. Between my stern warning and the police showing up, he has backed off. Getting the police involved is smart, at least to file the paper work. I hope the camera's work, like you want them to and catch those punks

All the best

Craig

Wow

Good thread. I am very interested in those "motion activated game camera(s) and DVR box". Can you enlighten me?

I do not live in the best of neighborhoods, but at least am fortunate enough to have a bit of space and good fences. Add in the 2 Rotties and the Boxer/Chow mix.

However, even though they have the best of doggie shelters each-on cold nights or big snow-some or all come in. Backup would be good.

I respect your approach as well. I also respect your ability to handle the situation when it developed..the best offense is a good defense. ;)

Rick

That must have been the most tense 45 minutes of your life!

Great story... ou sure know how to hold your ground... takes guts to confront people... er... punks poaching with high powered rifles... They are dangerous no matter who they are...

Have you ever heard of "glue bombs" I want some if they ever sell em... They trap the thief / vandal in some gooey stuff... Would make a great "home movie" with your motion activated camera system... When it goes off their stuck... Then you call the cops so they can release them from the goo...
