Question: Vin Number

How do you decipher your vin number to find out what motor you have, interior, paint etc. My vin number is 1Z878AS417511. Thanks

1st of all,welcome to CAC !!!!!
your vin won't give you that info...
if you look in the drivers door,on the hinge pillar,
you will see a tag with 'Chevrolet at the top followed by 3 digits...that is the build date
on the next line you will see trim followed by three digits and three more followed by paint,
which is the color it was painted when it was new.
if you post what your digits are we can tell you what you want to know.

The fifth character in the VIN '8' says that the car was born as an L48, base engine. The trim tag has the date built, paint and interior codes as bill81 said.

A model year code 1980
S assembly plant code, St. Louis, Missouri
4 car line series code (all 80s have this 4)
17411 consecutive unit number. The 17411th 1980 Corvette assembled. February, 1980.

Trim tag on the driver's door hinge post will list the codes for the stock interior and exterior colors nas show the time/build code in the upper right corner of the tag. The Corvette Black Book and other such sources lists the codes.
