Greetings all ..... Are there any books or websites out there to get a build history on a 67 corvette by vin#? I have a friend that has a driver quality 67. He has reached a dead end backtracking previous owners and I've offered my help thru the net. What is known is that it was originally a 427 and has factory 456 gears. It also appears that the radio and heater may have been added. The fuel tank has been replaced so there is no build tag to refer to.Naturally the missing L88 voice is talking to him and we both would like to get to the bottom of this. Any info appreciated. Thanks in advance. Redeye

welcome to the forum

No way to tell what was in a car with its vin yet,

What were your detemining factors that it had a 427? and the 456 as original

vin#'s

Thank you for responding...My best bud of 40 yrs. Ray acquired this car from his cousin about 10 yrs. ago for a Harley and cash. In the course of his backtracking and info from his cousin it was determined the original motor was a 427.His backtracking dead ended before the person who switched the motors out could be located. There are also features on the car that point to 427 that Ray pointed out to me that I'm not really Qualified to comment on. The rear end is stamped 667 and to be honest with you I don't know how he knows it's a 456. I understand the 456 was a very rare option in any corvette for that year.I would be very willing to gather more info or to arrange a telephone # exchange so that the two of you could go into more detail.Ray is extremely more knowledgeable on this car than I am. Also this is a shot in the dark but do you think any of the corvette clubs would have a condensed listing of the 20 L88's for 67? Again thank you for responding and any help is appreciated.

vin#'s

Let me try a different a different approach to this. How do you research a car by vin# ? The previous owner trail ends at three. The Chevy dealer that sold it is out of business. Is there a contact at GM that would assisst in research projects? What about the DMV? THe build history of this car is somewhere but which door is it behind? The vin#is 194377S117913 and the rear end is stamped FC.According to the black book only 5 of these went in a 67. This is a research project not a counterfeit scheme. Any info from someone who has been down this road before would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Redeye

Out of the 20 l88 built in 1967 I think they have found 68 of them so far.Who knows his might be 69th one found Its a possibility. Good Luck with you quest.
Something like 62 FI cars? Nearly all 62`s for sale are FI cars:L ;LOL

No way to trace its build history except by the tank sticker that was glued to the driver's side top of the fuel tank (if it's still there); that's the only build record that exists.

You may also want to read this article on Build Records and Corvette documentation:

Replying to Robs posted link about Art Armstrong and documentation; Art was invaluable to the documentation of #003. I believe Art, John Amgwert (NCRS #3), and my father, Howard Kirsch NCRS #290, (deceased) poured over the records as much as anyone ever could. They found what they were looking for, which was different than build records, but concerned the earliest Corvettes. Many many thanks to Art Armstrong for his help. We are proud to have him associated with #003.

Hi Joe, Good to hear from you!! :)

Hello!

HEY ROB!...

Thanks for the reply...I assume your car is running as well as your website... CAC is one of my favorites and I pass it on to others on a regular basis.

Had to give kudos to Art Armstrong, I saw where you mentioned him...I have video of him and my Dad and John Amgwert having a great time just hanging out...Somewhere I have pictures of them at our house with Zora...will check...

Just got an e-mail from Chip Miller that #003 has arrived from Hershey for the Carlisle show...he is going to hold on to it until we get there. Also there may be another '53 which was just finished for you to add to the registery...it is headed for VA next week...

I think very highly of your site...would you mind if I put a link to your site on the #003 site?

Thanks again,

Joe Kirsch

Thanks Joe! Yes, my Vette is running very well. We're going to have some nice weather here in Northern VA this coming weekend, so I'm looking forward to putting in some extra time behind the wheel.

I'd be honored to have a link on your #003 site!! Thank you!

I'm looking forward to seeing all the '53s together at Carlisle. Hopefully we'll run into one another. I'll be wearing my CAC shirt and name tag all while I'm there.

Sounds good Rob. I'll look for you there...

We put a front plate on #003 that says well, #003. If things work like Chip wants, with all the serial numbes in a row, we should be at the front of the line and easy to find!

I'm not that HTML literate enough to put a hotlink in this post, but for anyone who wants to take a look at #003, the site is
worldsoldestcorvette.com

I also wanted to mention thank you to your member JohnZ. I really enjoy his posts and pictures...plus I really like Marina Blue '67 roadsters...

I'll try to put a #003 hot link here:

Thanks!

IMHO Amgwert is unsurpassed in research and documentation...

Could you please put up the article he wrote in the Corvette Restorer entitled THE EARLIEST CORVETTES...published in '93 I believe...

Thanks again,

Joe Kirsch

Thank you JohnZ.

Would you mind if I download that picture and maybe put in on the #003 site?

Thanks again
