The local dealer tells my dad he needs a battery and an alternator.

1) Does the alternator have a separate voltage regulator (I'm pretty sure it's built in)

2) Is 13.2 Volts normal output? The car is ranging between 11. something and 13.2 max.

So my dad says.

He took the car elsewhere for a new battery, they tested the system, put in a battery and said all is fine.

I need to get him in this forum.

Thanks for any answers.

Thats in range, but 11 volts is on the low side. The voltage may drop just like in any car - when at idle and you switch on the rear defroster and the A/C -

The regualtor is built in.

Thanks for the info, I'll forward it to the old buzzard! (I mean my Dad) :D

I think he said 11.7 on the low side but I'll confirm that.

HI there,
As a sidenote, the alternator is PCM controlled, meaning engine revolutions is NOT the only factor in the electrical output of the alternator.
A bad battery can definately create this type of output at the alternator, especially if there is a soft cell within it. This would take MORE electricity then the alternator can put out.
Allthebest, c4c5
