Hello Vettepeole,
Currently my 90' C4 automatic L98 coupe front and rear rims are 17x9.5 with 275/40ZR17 tires on 'em. Wanna change rear rims to 17x11 with 315 tires. What do you think I get as advantages/disadvantages in handling/performance? Or is it better to switch just tires to 285?? What will happen in this case?
Thank you for advise...

I am running 285´s on the rear and 275´s on the front on stock 9.5¨ rims, they fit and look great. I am not sure if the 11¨ rims will clear the rear fenders. The ZR1 had the ¨wide body¨ to accommodate the big wheels.

As far as handling is concerned I went to the 285´s and Firestone SV50´s to get some traction on the rear end. The combination works great. In the same spots where the 275 Dunlop S9000´s broke lose under lite acceleration I can romp on the bigger Firestones with only moderate rear end drift. As far as straight line acceleration is concerned the new setup is a thousand times better. I think that the tires rather than the increased size makes most of the difference.

Thank you SPANISHVETTS.
But is here anybody who did 11's rims + 315 tires on rear on non-ZR1 C4s?? Hah Guys?

Ok, I found a threads about puting 17x11+315/35s on rear. But there are no combinations of 17x8.5 rims 255/45 tires front and 17x11 rims 315/35 tires rear. Any ideas please??

The difference between 275 and 285 on the rear (or front for that matter) is almost insignificant.

If you're thinking of going bigger on the rear, stick with the 315 on an 11" wheel. Get a wheel with 50mm offset (GS) and it will fit nicely under the fender (mostly).

You'll probably notice a little more stability with a 275/315 combination and a little more understeer.

OEM ZR-1 11" wide wheels will stick out from the rear fenders a bit; the ZR-1 body was widened 3 inches in the rear to accomodate the specific wheel width and offset of that wheel.

The 96 Grand Sport coupe wheels are also 11 inches wide but the offset is different so that wheel with the 315/35 tire will fit inside the wheelwell.

One thing to consider about going to a 315/35 tires is that manufacturers are beginning to drop that particular size due to the low number of tires being sold. I had read where Michlein has dropped that size from their Pilot Sport lineup. You might want to take that into consideration when thinking about going to that size. The GS-offset wheels are available from AFS Wheels in California www.afswheels.com and they do offer wheel and tire packages in either pairs or complete sets.

Go to http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirebran.htm and you will find 4 brands that still have a 315/35 tire:
BF Goodrich KD
Goodyear F1 GS-D3
Sumitomo HTR-Z
Yokohama AVS Sport
IMHO, the BFG KD or the Goodyear tires are the best tires of the group (and most expensive) but the KD is more of a summer, dry pavement tire. The GS-D3 should work in the wet with no problems.

Expect some more understeer with bigger tires in the back with the stock suspension. You can upgrade your suspension components to match the ZR-1 stuff to enhance handling.

You can go with ZO-6 rims which are 10 1/2 inches wide and put the stock size tires that come with that rim, (295/35/18) on back and the 265/40/17 on front , the rims width is 9 1/2 inches wide so you will not have any problem with rubbing at all.
I have these rim's on myu car, in fact you can get away with 315's on the rear also. 35 series tires.

Thanks all who participated,
I think to go to GS rims combination and tires: 265/40/17-front and 315/35/17-rear...

Please note:
The GS has 275/40/17's on the front........and I run the Yokohama AVS sports.
I track my car and the Yoko's are an excellent handling tire, especially in the wet.

Car's lookin' good, Punch.
I have the 285's on the rear and 275's on the front. You can clearly see the difference when actually standing beside the car, and it gives it an aggressive stance. Works for me, the 315's are overkill and likely harder to slip-slide around...:)

I run 315-35x17 on 11" Epsilons (offset unknown) at all corners.

Nice ride, Punch; looks like Oahu! Maybe one day soon I'll see dat perty machine in person.

Thanks RSJROCKET- Whalepirot- and of course you I've been Spanishvetts for the nice comments.
I too think that it gives your car a more "aggresive" stance!
I've been creeping around here and there checking things out, didnt want to wear out my welcome here, so I just post spearingly...........if that makes any sense.
What ever he dicides to do with the tire/rim changes, I'm sure he'll be happy with them.

Yes it is on the island of Oahu, as a matter of fact, the pictures was taken at the Hawaii Kai boat launch park.
I hope to get to meet you some tiem soon......the car's is gonna have a face lift in a week though..........here's a photo shopped picture of it when it will be done, the only difference in the picture and in real life will be the wing and the exuast, the wing will be the same color as the rest of the car, the exaust will have a differnt shape to it................wayyyyyy different shape to it, I designed it and you will never have seen one like it before, you'll see. ;)
Sorry for the high jacking of this topic guy's, I outa here. :w
