I want to buy an early 90's convertable vette and don't know much about them. Where should I start?

What years are the best one's to look for? What problems specifically should I look for? I'm looking around the range of $15K. I don't know too much about cars, but am willing to learn.

$15K will get you a pretty nice LT1 convertible. I think now is the pretty good time to buy since the economy is slow and winter time is coming. Comb through your local ads, eBay, Chevy Trader to see what's out there. You'll get a good idea of the mileage you can expect the vehicle to have, color, condition, mods, etc... and then you can decide from there.

You can go with an L98 or the LT1 for you engine, and if you stay with a 91 or newer you'll have the last front/rear skin mod on the C4 platform.

Edmond mentioned the market's a bit soft and you also have winter prices on your side.

The Corvette Research Center is a good place to read information on specific years and get a pretty good understanding of the engines.

Definitely drive several Vette's before you buy one. Enjoy your hunt and don't get the fever to bad !

Welcome! You've come to the right place!! I agree with everyone that the economy's sluggishness will probably help you find just the Corvette you're looking for! You've already narrowed your search to the early 90's convertible within the $15K range. I'd suggest '94 and newer because of the back window. They were plastic until 1994. I've had both...believe me, glass is better! How about transmission?? Automatic or stick?

I notice you're from Tampa. I think Rogers Corvettes is in that area?? Try visiting them. And read all the local private ads, too. That's where you're likely to find a deal!

Whatever you do, take your time!!! It's very easy to fall in love with the very first one you see and drive, but go on to look at others. There's a ton of great Corvettes out there...and another ton of not so good Corvettes out there:L

Actually for $15K, you're not too far off from an LT4, one of the top performers on the Corvette line for the money. But convertibles do have premiums over coupes though. Don't know why, I've never been a fan of convertibles.

Here's a 96 LT4 Convertible, the miles r a bit high @ 85.7 K, with a buy it now price of $16.9K.
