Hello all,

I wrote a few emails (in a panic) several weeks ago about my situation with my C6 in another Corvette forum. I have my car now.....and it's great. But several people at the time said that I should name the dealer to help (warn) other local members. I waited a bit because I didn't want to do it when I was angry, but now that it's over and I'm not seeing red, I wanted to recap the situation and warn any people in New England looking for a C6.

I'm sorry this is long, but I want to be honest and get this off my chest.

There were so many people that were helpful on multiple Corvette forums, and the forum vendors showed me what dealers SHOULD be like, and I want to thank everyone for their help.

I placed an order for a C6 in May of 2003 with Walter Earl Chevrolet in Bridgewater Mass. They were a great dealership and the largest volume Corvette dealer in Massachusetts. I had purchased my 2001 from them.

I had the P and S agreement which listed the vehicle and stated that it would be sold at MSRP. I put down a $1,000 deposit. I checked in with them every few months during the process, but honestly got more help from Marvin and the guys on this board.

In August 2004 I wanted to sell my 2001 to get ready for the C6, so I went to the dealer to talk with them and see if they would be interested. When I got there, the salesman told me that the dealership had been sold. New owner, etc. They looked at my vehicle and gave me an offer, which seemed low so I declined. I asked the salesman if our deal was still the same despite the sale of the dealership, he said yes, it was all in writing and he showed me my file.

When Kevin Torrance at the plant called to tell me my car was on the way and with Allied, I was excited, so I called the dealer. They said that my salesman wasn't there, but let me speak to another salesman who was involved collaterally (I had met him before). He said he had my file and everything was set. I confirmed that we were still dealing with MSRP and he said "oh, I'm not sure about that. You'd have to talk to the owner about that". And so the fun began....

I drove 45 minutes to speak to the owner, and he said 2,000 over MSRP and then he would give me credit for services or merchandise. I was stunned. I spoke with him for 20 minutes, explained that I had purchased before and would again, said that he was not thinking long-term, etc....He said if your not happy, you can have your deposit back. he said that the paperwork I had was in the name of Walter Earl chevrolet and that isn't valid any longer, since the dealership has changed hands. I just left. I called Chevy, they were great. They called the dealer on my behalf, and then called me back and said 'no luck'. They recommended that I call the BBB or my state attorney general.

I went through all that and they (the AG) recommended I seek counsel.....this was turning into a disaster. I had never ordered a car from scratch, I was excited, I had been waiting since may of 03 and winter was fast approaching so I was really attached to this car.

I spoke with the dealer again and they wouldn't budge, and were generally unfriendly. Then someone on the board had the advice to get the GMPP extended plan for $2000 and then cancel....so thats what I did. I purchased the car, got the 60 mo/90K/0 ded GMPP plan to qualify for the $2,000 over sticker, and then 2 weeks later called GM to cancel it, so I ended up getting it for sticker.

I know some would chastise me for giving the dealer my business, but that was 'my car' and I chose to proceed for my own reasons.

This dealer is Labelle Chevrolet in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

I would just like to let people know that even though it's in the same location and has some of the same people, this is no longer the delaership it was when it was Walter Earl Chevrolet. They were a huge corvette dealer and I'm afraid that people in the area will go there and not understand the type of people in charge and how things have changed. I have filed a complaint with the Massachusetts AG and the BBB, but just wanted everyone here to know.

Thanks for everything, I think I'll go slap another coat of Zaino on the Lemans blue coupe and take some pics to post here soon.

It's really sad to think that years ago, a man's handshake and his word were all that were necessary.:(

I know.....and now a signed contract and a $1,000 deposit isn't enough. I still don't understand the short sighted nature of this guy. Here is a customer that bought a 2001, and a 2005, and would probably buy a 2009 or 2010, a 2015, etc......but you have to guy ruin the relationship for what? $2,000....sad

Pat go to Best Chevrolet in Hingham. I live in Hanover and had been going to Mclaughlin and they are terrible as well. I would go to Best Chevrolet in Hingham its a great dealer and i have had no problems at all. Nothing but good things.

Thanks! Next time I'll check with them. I work in Weymouth, so its close.

Unfortunately, some peoples words just dont mean much.
My general sales manager was not too happy when a customer came in and wanted to put a deposit on a 2006 Z, and I told him we cant order one yet.
'And the truth will set you free'.
Now, he is coming back to order a Z51. You know, the truth may not be popular sometimes, but it is ALWAYS the right way.
