Warning light on DIC

OK, the wife and I left yesterday morning to come up to KC. Once we got on I70 I got a "Check tire pressure sensor" or something to that effect. When I toggled through the gauges it shows xxx for the tire pressure on my right front sensor, the other tires show a pressure reading. Does this mean that the battery has gone bad, or that I need to re-program the sensors? I'm not too concerned as the tires still have pressure, but it is annoying for this to pop up.

I've had that happen before, Tom. Sometimes it clears itself. I'd wait and see if it does.

Comes in handy for C5 owners. I created a document with the instructions, then printed the instructions and the codes list (several pages) and placed them in a 3 ring binder I keep in my trunk.

Do not rely on looks of the tire check with a gauge and if TP is within specs you probably have a sensor going bad.

Tire pressures !

I had so much trouble last year getting a consistent air pressures cold on my 2003 on the DIC, that I went into my local dealership, (Great company and Master tech) but Steve told me that the best thing to do with any year C-5 is to get yourself a good pocket air guage and set the tire pressue to 30 or 31 and then disregard the sensors, which is what I have done. And FWIW If I set all my tires with a good accurate pocket air guage and tire pressure at 31 PSI Cold, my DIC will regester 34 on the left front tire and 32 on the other front tire, and 31 on the left rear and 29 on the right rear ? Crazy huh ?

Tom, the question is "did you change the sensors when you put the new tires on the 01?" If you did not, then the battery could be dead. The FSM for my 02 says that if you get a Service Tire Mon Sys on the DIC, you have a malfunction. It doesn't say what the problem is if you get XXX as a reading. If the DIC codes don't reveal the problem, the FSM says to run a scan on the system.
If you have to replace the sensors, you could considered after market sensors that track the battery life; GM does not track the battery life.
Good luck on the 01, I believe you will continue to love it even more than your 94.

"Trust but verify"...I think I heard that somewhere before. Like Killian said, get a good gauge and double chech the sensor.

I would try reprogramming the sensors first cuz its free but it sounds like the sensor is dead to me. Just be lucky you have the 01' sensors they are a lot less expensive to replace than 97'-00'
