I recently put my '86 back on the road and one of the problems that cropped up was the washer tank leaking. I don't know if it's the tank, the hose, or the gasket between
pump and tank because I can't get at the tank!

I have taken out the side panel (easy enough) and 2 bolts from the tank that provides access to, but there is a 3rd bolt that recessed way on the other side of the tank which is nearly impossible to get to (let alone see). Does this mean I have to remove the inner lower wheel well to take out the tank and see what the problem is?

Darn I don't remember. But I know I did not take the wheel well off. Just the side gill panel. I probably used some wobble joints and extension.

Leak might be the rubber o ring that is sandwitched between the pump strainer filter and the tank. That or the tank is cracked, split, or has holes.

It's the only thing that seals the tank from leaking. The strainer is cone shaped, the base of it is shaped like a stop sign and threads on top of rubber ring. This allows you to put a socket over it. Lower a long extension and socket (forgot what size) through the fill hole up top. It's a pain in the azz to get the strainer started on the threads. So don't remove it if you don't have to.

Get the tank out of the car first though. Check for a split tank also.
