As I understand it all C5's had a "black box" module that continuously monitors and records key automobile performance parameters such as braking, acceleration, SPEED, etc. in an endless loop. When the airbags deploy the most recent data is saved. I've heard various rumors over the years about this data being used against drivers by insurance companies or courts and that the owner of the car may not exactly "own" this information or even control it in the event of an airbag deployment ( sometimes called crash ). Does anyone have knowledge of how this friendly device works on the C6? Is it even on the C6? I certainly have seen NOTHING mentioned about it in any article or GM literature. Being an oldgoat all this digital stuff is a bit intimidating but still I am curious. Of course, most vette drivers never exceed the posted limits so such a "monitor" would concern very few owners etc.

HI there,
Every car that has an air bag system has a DERM, or diagnostic energy reserve module.
This monitors conditions to assist in the correct deployment of an air bag in the event of a crash.
I have heard of it being attempted to use this data, however, only in law suit type cases.

Well, let me add one, C4C5. I took my (formerly owned) 1995 BMW 740i in to the dealer for service and was told, "Gee you drive this car hard".

What? I drive the ultimate driving machine hard?? Luckily, I learned how to erase Hals's mind!
