It looks like a big job. [part costs about $200].
Anyone had this done lately??

When they take it apart is there anything else I should replace before they put it together??

Thanks

:w

Not for sure but I had to change mine a few years ago and it was not a fun job.You are probably going to have to replace your heater hose assembly in the same process.Dont waste time trying to build a new hose assembly,by one from the dealer.

Go Electric

Go electric, better cooling, more horsepower. See http://www.meziere.com/

Water Pump / Timing Chain

I'd replace the timing chain while I had everything already torn down. Just did mine in Sept. Total cost about $150 or so. Make sure to get the heater hose nipple off the old water pump because the new one wont have a nipple and the ones for the Vettes can be difficult to find. took my time over the weekend and got it done in about 10 hours ... like I said took my time ... plenty of beer breaks. :beer

You may want to check this out http://www.batee.com/corvette/dcrg/readerstips/larsstuff/tchaintechpaper.htm

Pretty good info there. :pat :CAC

Before you pull it all apart or have someone else do it try a bottle of Barrs' stop leak. It's great suff and if the leak is small it should stop. :)

If a pump from an 86 will fit an 88, I've got a low-mileage (about 8k) pump and new gaskets you can have cheap. I upgraded to a Flow-kooler and don't need this one, which was put on when I bought the car about a year and a half ago.
And yes, you'd need the heater hose pipe off your old one.

I just mine last weekend.
You have to take almost everything in the front off.
Its not hard, but takes time.

I've changed the upper and lower hoses and the belt.

Have fun :D
