Got my first wave yesterday and it was from a 67 convertible to my 90 which was nice. I just got the car in December and it was in storage until the spring. I don't drive it much, so this was the first vette I have passed on a secondary road vs a 4 lane highway.

The wave is a funny thing. I bought my car in november of 04. and didn't receive my first wave until january of 05! I was starting to believe people down here didn't know what it was.

But it feels good to get a wave back.
Funny it comes up today. Ususally on my drive to work I occasionally pass a vette that just seems more concerned at getting to work on time. But today a C5'er practically had his whole body hanging out the window to wave at me, suit and all. It made my morning!

It's a silly thing, but it made me feel good too especially since it was a C2 waving to a C4. I had heard there was a snob issue with the older, more vintage vettes. Told my wife about the wave but she doesn't understand it.

Congratulations on your first wave. It is something that most people remember for a long, long time.

I was lucky- got mine from a C3 on the way home from the dealership. It was a great feeling.

I got my 1st wave back in 1968, while driving my '65 coupe, as an 18 year old.

Back then it was a reflex reaction: When you saw another Vette you just flicked a wave-- real simple.

Now, the wave seems to have "hang-ups" or personality "issues" attached to it.
Snobbery or something, I can't explain the difference, but there is a difference.

Wow! Six replys and no one ragging on the C5 drivers yet. C'mon people, wake up!!

At first, I didn't understand the wave either. I was waved at and kinda waved back and thought to myself "who was that guy?":L

I average about one out of four C-5 drivers waving back so maybe there's hope yet. I meet a C-6 about twice a week and he waves every time.:w

Same story, different players...

This is a hot topic on the HD boards as well... Seems like the same type of people, too. They don't wave, well...I don't really care what somebody else thinks if I wave at them (which I do). I always think of Cameron's reply to Ed Rooney in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" when that happens. :D

I seems that "Vette people", by which I mean people who love Vettes, not purchased them to have the best looking car in the driveway, seem to always wave and make conversation if able. I was at the car wash on Saturday, cleaning my beast when a C6 pulled up behing me. He got out and we immediately started talking Vette's. He complimented me on a great looking 96, and it goes without saying that his C6 was beautiful. It's a lot different, seeing as most people dont even know their own neighbors names anymore.

I got a great wave on a recent vacation drive. I was in my '85 with the Mrs. and the top was removed. We were driving in through the area known as 'The Hamptons' on L.I. when I spotted in my rear view a beautiful grey '62(?) vert, driven by a pretty blonde with her male companion. I saw that she was trying to catch up to me, noticing another Vette on the road, and when she got closer, I waved out through the roof opening and sure enough she waved back!! It was the coolest thing. I'm sure she was just as excited driving that Vette as with all the companionship that it brings along the road.:Steer

That's a great story. The Hampton's is a beautiful area!

i think it comes down to people that know what muscle cars are let alone vettes Vs people that buy them because they have the money and it's more of a status symbol. what i hate the most is when you pull up to a light and sits next to you is a C5 (haven't seen too many C6's yet and only 1 in my C4 but i'm sure it's the same) you look over to see if he's looking so you can wave and he is not even paying attention. thats fine it's when we pull off and i roll on the throttle half way so we can hear the car and they look at me like i got 3 heads. about 50/50 part of the time when they are looking at me then do they wave.

i've hurt a few stock C5 owners feelings due to this on the highway. :lou

We must be a friendly bunch here in the high desert of California. All the local vette owners wave. Marty
