It's been nearly a year since I did any bodywork on my Vette. Since I have the car pretty-much stripped down to nothing, I decided to go all the way, and do the off-frame resto.
I was able to remove 5 of the 8 mounts without problems; the other three had to be cut. Some final disconnections included the steering coupling, brake lines, parking brake, seat belt safety line, bumper brackets, and the gas tank wiring.
I built the makeshift body hoist.... It's not pretty, I know - but it did the trick. I used screws instead of nails so I can disassemble this beast, and salvage the lumber for something else later.
Here are some pics of the lift-off. I'll post some of the body on the dolly/cart next.
