The weather stripping on my 92 has been causing me a little problem recently.

It all started with a rock hitting the windshield and cracking it. It seems that the weather stripping that goes around the outside of the A-pillar has to be replaced when the windshield has been replaced because the windshield side moldings hold that weather stripping in place. After some fits and false starts, the windshield and the side moldings were replaced and new weather stripping installed. Then the new weather stripping did not fit well with the stripping on the roof - had gaps and leaks from that area.

After the technician tried adjusting the side windows to force a better fit, I still had leaks and air noise. Techician decides that the roof weather stripping has to be replaced also. After getting this installed, he's having a devil of a time getting the side window to seal properly at the rear seal on the halo bar. Now he has to order the rear weather stripping for the halo bar.

Of course it takes 2-3 days for each order to get in and then a day to install and test. After 2 weeks in the shop for the windshield and the front weather stripping, followed by a week of driving and water leaks and air noise, I'm looking at another week and a half in the shop to install every piece of weather stripping around the roof and side windows.

You'd think a Corvette mechanic and shop would know to do this anyway for a 12 year old car with 12 year old weather stripping. After all, they are supposed to be the experts on this sort of stuff. Guess not.

It's been a frustrating day or two (make that a week or 3)

Anyone else experience this sort of problem?

damnit!

yea, you would think they knew this ahead of time.

Whose weatherstripping did they use? From what I've read here on the forum, GM's weatherstrip is the closest fitting (what would you expect?). The aftermarket has mixed reviews but I haven't read a negative comment on the GM stuff, other than price.

Here's what I have found out from several of the members in the local club I joined...if it isn't an original GM, you have 3 problems:
1. It doesn't fit
2. It Really doesn't fit
3. It just doesn't fit.

I have been told from nearly everyone (100+ members) that had weatherstripping done and has run the ganmmut of manufacturers, that its just not worth trying to save the few dollars on some other types. You end up with more problems than its worth and may have to make future repairs beyond that. Worst part is, if you dont have a good Corvette shop around, and let a local glass dealer do it, you a re going to have trouble too. Luckily i found a corvette shop and bought a GM windshiled strip from Ecklers, and its perfect.

I sure hope I am getting GM weather stripping as I am using a GM Chevy dealer's service department. Guess I'll find out what they are using.

and you have had to wait each time for the weather strip to be delivered?
I would have thought a dealership would stock those parts.
(well, as you say, it is a 12yr old car, but still)
