Weatherstripping prevention

Im curious if anyone uses something to help keep there weather stripping in good condition. I had heard from somone that a simple silicone grease can help prevent cracks and keep your stripping looking like new. Any comments or suggestions?

I use di-electric grease. (the stuff for cap/rotor, sparkplug boots) I put on gloves and smear a thin coat over the w/s and then use either my gloved hands or a not-very-absorbent towel to smooth the excess.

Silicone spray on a small rag and then wipe the WS down. Let it stay there for an hour or two and wipe off the excess.
