Weed-eater Outrage!

Parking where you are supposed to has nothing to do with it. I honestly believe people nowadays have no iota of respect for other peoples property or their achievements. Honestly.

And you have to own one to really understand. My family and I went to a restaurant some time back. I purposly park far away from everyone else and I always want to sit where I can keep a watchful eye. Well, the place was packed and I could sit where I wanted. When we came out I noticed in the distance there was a small crowd around my baby and the 73 Buick that was parked right next to me. When I approached the crowd they were gathered around MY car, not the Buick and some dork was sitting on the My bonnet! Ever get in one of those situations where your heart thumps and time slows down? I wanted to rip this guys head off. I walked up and said please get your a## off my car. Oh, is this yours he says. I said yes, now get away from it. There must have been 10 people crowed around and this idiot was the apparent leader. The idiots were acting like I was the most rudest person they had ever met. No one ever thought about the brass rivits on the back pocket and what those could do to the finish. No, I was the bad person.

So, no, it does not matter where you park. And no you did not over react. Stupidity is rampant and many do not respect the achievements of others.
Now, am I over reacting?

I say you have answered the question and I CONCUR?AGREE with all, especially this;

"I honestly believe people nowadays have no iota of respect for other peoples property or their achievements. Honestly.

SING IT LOUDLY and yes I am shouting it.

No you did not over-react. That is just another part of what is wrong in this day and age, to much PC Chit. It is not acceptable to be a black/white, or right or wrong issue decision, but how much gray area/PC correct B-Chit which can be put between the real issue. If one has F'd up then just have enough moral value to admit it and take responsibility for said actions.

I'm also a "Just drive the thing, stuff happens". And this is my first Corvette. But, people look at things differently.

Just the other day I was sitting a stop light when a landscape technician working on the lawn next to me began using a leaf blower to clean the sidewalk. Cut grass was all over the Ghost Machine, but, "No worries, Mate". It was dry and it all blew off on acceleration.

There are things that get me ****ed, but I guess that's not one of em.

Uh Oh

Hey, Gersh, I made a mistake; I hadn't read this thread in a long time and after rereading it I see that the handicapped parking spot thing was stated in a reply a little farther down the first page and was stated by someone else; mea coppa, mea coppa, mea maxima coppa!:cry

Hey, Norseman, that is a pretty know-it-all attitude for someone who wasn't there and apparently didn't even read my initial post. Let me clarify, both for you and for some other commenters:
First, I was appropriately parked, in my reserved spot.
Second, IT WAS NOT GRASS OR A LAWNMOWER--it was landscaping plants being cut with a weedeater (no set schedule, not predictable, and not just grass clippings).
Third, I had only had the car three weeks. I don't ever buy a car as a garage decoration. It is a daily driver, but I don't think the paint was even fully cured at that time (yes, I am aware of the paint baking process).
Fourth, I think some of the comments were made by people with older cars--well broken in--already got the first scratches, chips, even faded paint. That is a bit different from a brand-new car (and I generally bought used in the past).
Fifth, I'm sorry about someone's Mom and Dad, and in fact, my Dad died early this spring, but this isn't a cancer and heart disease forum. Are you saying that as long as anyone in the world is sick, my priorities are messed up if I care about my Corvette???

No problem dude. Truth is, after I have had the car longer, I have relaxed a bit more about the inevitable changes. And, like I mentioned in a follow-up post, it turned out there wasn't any damage.
I met a guy who saw my car out in the lot at a car parts store and he told me he had a 2002 black vert with 180 miles. I didn't say it but thought "Oh, I'm sorry!" 'Cause they are built to drive, not to preserve.

;LOLwhat a fool, paying all that money and only getting to look at it ;LOL I personally don't like "low Milage" cars

Driver

I drive mine every chance I get; just don't take it to work our parking lot is a demolition derby.:)

I know how you feel about your brand new car, but I think it was an over-reaction. Now, you gotta be careful of a retaliation, cuz' these lawn care people are at the bottom of the food chain and couldn't care less about our bourgeoisee asses. In fact a lot of people, couldn't care less about us and our cars. He'll probably never smell the inside of anything brand new in his lifetime, no matter how hard he works. He probably went home that night, thinking about the incident and how delicious a nice long gash down the side of your brand new car might make him feel. I think you should take a whole case of ice cold soda and ice tea to the entire crew, find the guy, look him straight in the eye and as you slide him a crisp $50 bill, let him feel the sincerity of your apology in your handshake as you say, "I'm sorry about my behavior the other day, why don't you buy some lunch for your entire crew''. Maybe a car cover is in order regarding your parking situation, but we both know how quickly that's gonna get old. Maybe even drive a commuter car to work if that's in order. That way you won't have to worry about your brand new car.

This has to be a troll!

Let's see reward someone for being irresponsible for their own actions. That right there is a big part of the problems facing our nation right now, rewarding people for F'king up and not punishing them.

Yes, must be a troll! And I for one do not care if you are the poorest person on the street, I still respect whatever is yours, and expect the same in return.

May we please have your street address? We'd like to drop off an "ice cold" theater level nuc.:)

Remo:cool

So, lets think about this a second. Bunny says the landscape guy probably went home, thought about the incident and relished in the thought of a nice long gash in the side of Gershs' car. And then Gersh is supposed to feel bad about he did and treat them all to a lunch, cold drinks and a $50 dollar bill?

What planet are you from Bunny?

The whole issue here is the respect people should show for others and their property. Not in a subservant form but simple respect. RESPECT. Does anyone know what that means anymore? Does everyone wear a chip on ther shoulder and when something does not go their way they act like a child and then expect to be forgiven or rewarded? Whining "well I can't be held responsible because I had a tramatic incident with my tricycle and a Corvette when I was little and it has affected me ever since." Humbug.

I am sure Gersh worked pretty hard to accumulate what he has over the years. Probably like a very large majority on this board. And when one works hard and finally is able to recognize their reward like a successful marriage, a college education, an advanced degree, a new home, a new Geo Prism or a new Corvette, they should be able to relish in the fact that they, they have accomplished something. And then..... we are not supposed to react when some dolt stumbles along and, without regard, acts in a manner that could cause damage? I bet it would be a different story if it was the cable guy pulling wires through Bunnys house and he yanked a hole in the wall or caused an electrical fire.

Man, that got the burr under my saddle this morning................

Why don't you give him $200, invite him to you house for dinner and beer. After, giving them all screw drivers to finish the job of the corvette. Then tell him your sorry again, and you hope you can all be friends. Ya, right!:mad

It was apparent post-incident, that no harm was done. Invite the guy over for dinner and give him $200.00 in let's not forget, crispy bills...now that's class! I don't know about the screwdriver thing. And no troll here. So people should bow down to us because of our cars? Respect? Parking in a handi-cap spot and demanding/expecting respect? I don't think so. I stand by what I said.

I saw the weed wacker guy working on the grass around our parking lot at work. I moved my Jag (no Vette yet) and then my co-worker moved his Jag. We both work for an English company so Jags are the thing to get. Anyway, the weedwacker dude must have thought we thought we were special or something. My buddy's "Leaper" was missing when we got back. My car was untouched.

He freaked out!

I Can't Believe..................

this thing is even still being discussed.

Jaguars are awesome cars too. I also have an '04 S-Type R that is equally cherished. Sorry about your friends "Leaping Jaguar" hood ornament. But like I said, bottom of the food chain and couldn't give a rip about us. Be careful anyway Johnnyk.

I never thought I could be so nuerotic about a car!!! My S-type /R is the first new car I ever purchased. So combine that with the fact the it's very special to me and it's an explosive situation!!

Maybe if if wasn't black it was be easier to hide any disrespect it was shown throughout the day. :ugh

It's o.k. to be neurotic about your car. Might be a good time to look into a reliable commuter just for work. Save the Jag for more special occasions. Might also want to study or find out what days are weed wacker days as well. Take care my friend.
