Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Well, this is embarassing

Yep, definitely unwanted publicity...

This is bizarre! I am curious to see what would cause a fire in the trunk area of a new Chevy SS.
It was probably Danica Patrick' fault. Everything is!
:ugh

One likely cause was mentioned by Little E:
“I guess it was the batteries in the back for the lights ... because cars just don’t catch on fire like that,’’ Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. “It was pretty weird.’’
I guess this would be the batteries for the added pace car lights.

Anybody want to bet on if those battery's were lithium.........:)

Maybe they got the batteries surplus from Boeing...... ;LOL

More batteries, please...

That's why I want a hyper-complicated car with 300 Lbs of batteries, 'cause I just can't drive around with enough unnecessary systems. Then when they expire, I'll just... throw 'em out - into a landfil. :ugh

I'll take a '67 Chevelle over that "SS" anyday. At least the Chevelle won't rat me out to the internet...

You missed the part that these batteries aren't standard equipment on this car. They are there because of all the extra pace car lighting etc. and may have had a wiring error. You can wire in more batteries in your car if you want to!!! :D

Yeah I read that real quick, dude. I was just generalizing. Just a trip to see something like that related to more batteries and all that. Ya heard about the latest Tesla fire recently? Just ain't my thing. I have my Master's in mechanical engineering and just appreciate simple machines the most, like my BMW bike I bought new in '85. That's why i love the good 'ol small block Chevy - basic greatness! :beer

You're preaching to the choir now! I love the ole small block too. :) But, I also like the Tesla and new technology. Tesla hasn't had any fires lately but a lot of small blocks probably have! I can see that the fossil fuel engine is coming to it's end. It will die slowly. I am tired of $3.00 per gallon gas and our $$$ going to people that use it to buy weapons to use against us. Times, they are a changing. :upthumbs Peace bro! :thumb

Nothing wrong with admiring what was before, what is now and what will someday be... If I had the resources, I would have at least one example of each generation of Corvette just on principle.
