Sheila saw my car pull up and asked me out to the back of the bbq shack she runs to look at her vette. It WAS a kewl '81 coupe. No cover. Hood sprung, flat tires. It made me sick.

I offered to buy it right now, name it. She said no, it meant too much to her. WTF are you talking about? Step away from the malt liquor.

I took an old cover there Monday and covered it up, like a coroner. I'm with Dawn, we need to intervene.

It makes me sad too to see Vettes in this state. But you have to look at the other side of the coin. I also see these Vettes in a state of suspended animation, sitting untouched, undriven, unabused, unfenderbended, uncrashed, unmileaged, unbubba-ed, unregistered, uninsured... forgotten for years or even decades as the sun rises and sets over the old barn they are in thousands of times as life passes by until one day they are rediscovered and resurrected by enthusiastic Vette lovers like us. We should thank these hoarders of metal and fiberglass for preserving (albeit rusted) these treasures that will eventually find their way back to the future. :L

The condition that this person is afflicted with is called separation anxiety. It takes many forms . I have a relative who will not throw out magazines or newspapers. They are strewn about and are tatered. A lot of people experience this syndrome. It is a form of power and control. They understand and probably would like to sucumb to reason- but the sickness takes over. I went to an estate preview and there was a man who had rooms full of porno and various magazines to the ceiling and in his basement 6 feet deep. It is the same thing cars, newspaper, paper clips, etc...

I think you are guestimating too high

I’ll beg to differ, as they say.

In the early 1970’s I paid $150 for a complete 59, $500 for another complete 59, $1,200 for a 63 split window. I did not pay near $10,000 for a Corvette until 1979. It was the first Vette with a sticker over $10,000 and it was NEW! In the early 1970’s used Corvettes were not expensive and most went for less than $5,000 even those with FI. 1967-1969 Tripower was not even a high dollar item, it was only a couple years old in the early 1970’s.

Sure do miss the good old days when Corvettes were just for fun not for money.

In some aspects I'll agree with the studiog, but only if I'M the one that gets to find this "treasure".
LOL
Most of is here dream of finding that one great "barn find". Here is a whole barnful of them (actually 2 barns!!) and he won't let go of any of them He will die owning all these cars

you are probably correct and I stand corrected. I was just pulling what seemed may be reasonable numbers out of my head. What you say though makes it even worst. For what he most likely paid way back than compared to what he could sell a few of these cars for now, it doesn't make much sense to just let them sit and deterioate.

I just still think it a real shame to have these car sit and go unused and unloved and uncared for.

If I had the resources, I have to be honest, I think I might do the same thing. Thats what collectors do, they collect, they seldom sell, whether its stamps, coins, paintings or Corvettes. Eventually they will find their way into someone elses hands as all of our Vettes eventually will when we die. Thats life.

yes, I agree, if i had the resources I'd love to have all those cars and keep a collection of them, but i'd like to think that i'd at least fix them up, keep them running and maintained and in good condition - not just let them sit there and rot. That's the difference and that's what has bothered me about this from the beginning. Can't blame the man for wanting to keep them - i would too - it's how he is keeping them and not doing anything to them other than letting them sit year after year as they deteriorate away that bothers me.

Oh, and MY vette will never be in anyone elses hands - i'll die and be buried in her!
;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL
