I know you are only joking (what else do we expect of you BV LOL) but the NCM is a bit different. That at least is a collection of restored cars properly maintained in climate controlled conditions and it also benefits everyone as people can go look at the cars and see a wonderful piece of automotive history.

This guy has 50 cars in barns in the northeast where they are just sitting and rotting away and being hidden from everyone

This story of the 50 Vettes in barns sounds very familiar. There is a guy in Lake George NY, one town over from me, that has 50 Vettes in 2 large storage garages. They are on the property of an amusement park (The Magic Forest) that he owns. Many of them were shown last summer at a car show at the Saratoga Race Track in Saratoga Springs NY. They vary widely in condition. Some extremely nice and many in average condition. Most if not all are C1 & C2. He has at least 2 Vette shops in the area that freshen up and restore many of the cars. Maybe this is God's way of telling people they have too much money :L

I met the guy i was talking to in a show in PA, SW of Phila so I believe the cars he was referring to are also in PA.
Can't imagine 2 people each having 2 barns of 50 Vettes!
geez, I'm feel lucky just having the one.

Who knows, people might be talking like this about Vetteadict in 30 or 40 years :D

This senerio is probably more common than you might think. There are allot of Vette collectors out there who have the resources to purchase and maintain these cars. 50 is probably the upper limit but I would not be suprised if there are several people with this many Vettes.

Barry,

I don't know, it seems I've heard this urban legend before.
Back in 75-76 when I was at the U of Fla (go gators!) this story was told then about a mysterious barn in PA where a guy was sitting on about 20 vettes and a truck load of parts.
It goes hand in hand with the old...."my cousin klnows a guy who answered an ad for a (insert year here) chevy that turned out to be a corvette bought by a young man who died in (insert your favorite war here) and never came home. So this firend of a friend of a friend answered the ad"...well the rest of that was made into a country song. I first heard that one in 1975 and it has lingered so long, my Father told it to me in VA 2 years ago....and I kept saying, "But Dad, did you see the car or meet the actual guy who bought it?" Of course, no one ever has.
If you ever find the guy and the barn, let me know, we'll drive up there together and make him an offer he can't refuse.
Dennis;)

oh believe me, that was my first thought! has to be just a rumor or myth, or whatever but I've run into a lot of people who know the man I spoke to at the show and all confirm his story. And this guy I spoke to was one of the two guys that bought all the Vettes way back so it not one of those "i met a guy who knows someone that has a friend that told me of this man who heard of.........." stories.
Hey, i'd love to find these barns and make an offer! I'd sell my house to come up with the money LOL! (don't tell my wife that)

This Challenger has been sitting like this for years, and the guy refuses to sell it for any amount of money - he just continues to pay storage fees to my friend Jimmy.

Its Time To Revolt!

Ok all you fellow vettians! That's it! Time to saddle up our vettes, congregate, and take mass action against these "wastees"! What do ya say?

Oh, yea - that's right - no time, no money..... bummer. :(

Sorry - been a long day at work today.

What a waste

Ok...here is something that has been killing me for years too. There is a guy who runs a business in town, general contractor, and he has a 63 Split window coupe sitting outside his shop. The first time i saw it, I just wanted to stop and look at it. I was in awe. I drove by the shop everyday, and I have as of yet seen the thing move. It WAS in really good shape about 8 years ago. It is still sitting htere now. I have stopped several times over the past 2-3 years and have BEGGED for him to sell it to me. The answer was and still is no. And now, the car really looks like crap! I have watched this thing turn into a pile of crap over the last several years. I have been heartbroken about this and have found a new way home. Can't stand to see that once gorgeous car being neglected. Of all the Vettes I have ever wanted, this was it. Dont even know if its even there or works anymore. Really ticked me off though to know that such a one-of-a kind car was being destroyed. Almost thought about stealing it......Anyway, I think if you dont do anything with it (drive it or , at least keep it out of the weather), you should be FORCED to sell it. NEW LAW!!

that's an idea. we can start a new Corvette lobbyist group in Washington to get laws passed for this. Any Corvette discovered sitting unused and/or neglected for so many years MUST be put up for sale. Maybe even first purchase option to go to the person discovering the neglected car?

Did anyone see the show on the Discovery Channel last week where the woman had a '64 coupe in the garage for about 8 years and by than it was under 8 years worth of crap piled on top of it? They did a complete frame-off restoration in 7 days but that car would be a canidate for a forced sell same as the '63 you know about and all 50 of the cars in these 2 barns, and the ones that VNV posted pics of.

If someone is too stupid to know how to maintain a Corvette and give it the respect it deserves they don't deserve to own it. As it was pointed out earlier in this thread, how DARE somebody do what they want with their own property! LOL
When it comes to a Vette they should be accountable for their actions.
With the neglect some of these poor cars are going through the death penalty is too good for these people!
:mad

VNV,
Where are those vettes you have pictures of? There's a 63 split there!! I WANT IT!! Dont care what condition its in or if I have to sell the wife and kids and mortgage the house!! THat is my ultimate dream vette!!

well Barry, these "hoarders" all eventually die, just like dear old Fred did, and his 70 old cars then get released onto the car folks, but a little worse for the wear (at least Fred put his vettes, a 53, some other C1s, even a 67 BB vert - INSIDE the barn). I think Fred had cool taste in cars, if not any skill in keeping them up.

anybody in Iowa looking for something to do on Saturday?

I just do not get why they won't sell if a decent offer comes in.....
Obviously the owner and prospective buyer have two different opinions of "decent offer" in these situations. Doesn't everyone have a price, even if it's not reasonable?

Sheila saw my car pull up and asked me out to the back of the bbq shack she runs to look at her vette. It WAS a kewl '81 coupe. No cover. Smothered with leaves. Hood sprung, flat tires. It made me sick.

I offered to buy it right now, name it. She said no, it meant too much to her. WTF are you talking about? Step away from the malt liquor.

I took an old cover there Monday and covered it up, like a coroner. I'm with Dawn, we need to intervene.
