Can someone tell me a good replacement carb. for my 77 vette. The engine is mildly modified, mild cam, dart heads, headers, true duels, performer intake 340hp. Still running the stock Q-jet carb. Thanks jw

if you want something that will work right out of the box and will need very little adjustment, get the edelbrock, if you are able to tune a carb, get a holley street dominator ,these carbs are quicker but are harder to tune and must be re-tuned from time to time.
the diffrence between the two are night and day.the diff between the q-bog and either one will be night and day.you should no longer have that 1/2 second hasitation when hitting w.o.t.that you are now used to. be ready to be impressed all over again with your engine.

sorry not street dominator, road demon.sorry, mike(and it's still early)lol.mike

Go with a 600 or 650; too many people put 750's on and are not happy afterward. I have a Holley 650 cfm and I am very satisfied. You can't go wrong with an Edelbrock either.

i put on a road deamon 625 w/ vac secondaires. I'm quite happy with it.

Don't get a replacement carb. The QJet was way ahead of it's time, and can be considered the best carb of all, and is even good competition for FI. Modified and tuned, there is nothing better. Just do a rebuild with modifications for it, that carb will kick ass.

And if you do get a whole different carb, please PM me if you are going to sell the QJet. I am interested in it...

I have a quadrajet from my 76 L-48. What's it worth? Better question: What is anyone willing to pay for it?

Running Edelbrock 600. Super throttle response.

it's USED ! ! ! it was rebuilt and ran about 3000 miles. typical maladies. throttle blades need bushed. bottom needs expoxied toseal just all the others.

#1406 edelbrock on mine with edelbrock performer eps manifold.

John,
Before recommending anything have to ask, Why do you need a replacement carb? If it is just that you feel that it is not giving you enough performance, then may just a carb tune up with the correct jets and needles would be all that is needed. If the carb is worn out, beyond a rebuild, then why not go with another Q-Jet? The Q-Jet is one of the best street carbs ever built, just look at all the resources that were behind the development of that carb. Just don't be taken in by a carb just because it is used on a race engine. Because of its race background it may not be the best for the street.

tom...

Q-jets on them and im running a modded Q-jet from a 425 caddy on my vette, one thing in particular why the stock carb gets a bad rap is too many ham fisted mechanics over tightning the bolts that pass through the airhorn.Id say out 15 carbs 10 will have been ruined by over doing the tourqe on the bolts once the airhorn warps it junks it.And just like any carb they will ware out. best thing is give it a good overhaul tune it,adjust the secondary airvalves and your gonna be impressed. The tuth of the matter is I ran a 750 model 3310 holley on my car and switched to the Q-jet that I redid and ended up going 2 tenths faster in the 1/4 with the q-jet.
