76 4speed
I have a 76 Vette that has two connections to the Quadrajet that are blocked off. It's a 4 speed with AC. Can someone tell me what goes to these two connections on the carburator. I think one goes to the air cleaner, which one 1 or 2. What about the other one? See photo.

I'd have to look at mine to be sure but I think that they go to things that are missing from your car. Something like the EGR valve via a temp sensor and the A.I.R pump and heat rise valve.

I've only had the car a few months. I should have said also that it has dual exhaust and there is no heat riser valve. Also there is no AIR pump, no lines into the exhaust manifolds so it did'nt come with it. The EGR valve is connected to the carburator already. However some of the lines could be connected wrong.
Thanks,

Lucky, I have a 1976 4 speed also, mine has the low HP L48 motor. I went out and looked at mine and on your number 2 that is plugged, mine has a cap on it and is not used, your number 1 is not on my carburator at all. You could have a replacement carburator. Also check the number on the carburator a 1976 with 4 speed has this number 17056207.

I'm taking somewhat of a guess here, but maybe your carb is not original. QJets from auto cars are supposed to have something so that the automatic transmission can read vacuum from. Maybe that is one of those ports, and whereas you have a 4-speed, it is not in use. Just my $.02.

You guys right about the carburator replacement. It has a 7045504 number on it which translates to a Rochester, 1975, California, Chevy, Automatic. Guess it got replaced sometime. It has a new looking choke unit on it and it works fine with a 4 speeed. Where does your vacuum line from your air clearer hot air flap go? Mines not connected but I may connect it now that it's getting cooler weather.

I know one!

Lucky -

#1 is the bowl vent line that typically goes to the carbon canister. Technically, you can cap it off, but if you have the can, let it vent to it. #2 is a new one to me, but with a 4-speed and no AIR pump you can cap it off. Be sure to use proper vacuum caps, not hoses with screws in them-they will leak. You can get them from the Help! display at Checker, etc.

You have noted it's a California carburetor. #2 probably goes to some other emissions device like a TVS switch. Hope this helps.

Oh, yeah-

Reread your post. Your air cleaner hot air flap is direct vacuum-not ported. Earlier Q-jets had the direct port on the choke side of the carburetor. Yours being later, it is probably on the left rear near the mounting bolt-it typically points at a 45 degree angle.

Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone for the help.
