bright red 1984 crossfire
so i stumbled across a 1984 red vette with 108,000 miles on it for $4800.00, other than normal wear and tear the interior is in top condition, the exterior is real nice, a nick in the pain here and there from inconsiderate car owners and lazy shopping cart wranglers! the tires on it are brand new or close to it, the shocks were recently replaced, the brakes look good the alternator was replaced last season and the battery this year.... and it runs great....

now my problem..... i have a 82 vette with 70something thousand miles on it, it really needs a paint job bad, i cant find anyone to do it for under 5k, my interior is in good shape, nothing special, i have some stupid electrical issues here and there, signals dont seem to work all the time, some dash lights dont work, from 10 feet away, my car looks mint.....

i love my 82, i have always loved the c3 body style, i would like to have one with a bigger badder motor, but there is something about this car (the 84) that has me hooked, im trying but i just cant justify keeping both right now, i have some major major home improvements coming up and every cent is gonna count, the wifes like 60/40 on that subject but i expect it to change drasticly soon against that decision... im thinkin about buying it and listing them both and seeing which one i can get more out of, the guy seling it just lost interest in it and is planning to move soon and just wants rid of it, hes not the original owner, nor was the previous owner, before that the history is unknown, the man selling it seems to have a pretty good case of ocd :D and seems to like his things to be nice and in repair from the looks of his other cars and his home...... neither car is a peach thats for sure, the 84 is much cleaner inside and out and under the hood thats for sure.... but there is just this thing pulling me back to my c3... im gonna do my best to keep both if i do decide to buy this car...

now, what do ya think of the price.. im gonna get a few pics of it today to post and make my decision, :hb:hb:hb:hb

Bill,
my first thought: I wouldnt do it. But i have my preferences for the C3 style.

But the car sounds nice at the price. You need to do what feels right for you.. How does it drive? Did you get a test drive yet?

uh: Are we talking Diecast? Or did you hit the wrong forum? :L ;)

I'de skip the 84 ... if you really want a c4 at least get one with tpi. Or if you do get the 84 at least buy a belt moulding that says tuned port injection so you get a little more respect and throw it on the 84.

Actually in stock form the early TPI cars didn't make any more power than the 84. Besides if your going to get into mod's you can build any power level you want.

One point in the 84's favor is that it has stiffer suspension than the later C4's. They handle really well.

I have to agree with you John, even though the first Gen L98 put out 25hp
more than the stock CFI L83, the L98 received 083 Heads and a better cam.
So of the +25hp it got, we know a great deal of that was due to the head and
cam upgrades. I think the L83 sadly came with smog heads, 76cc chambers
and 158cc runners. The L98 then got another upgrade to the heads and cam in
1987 giving it 245hp. These where the 113 heads.

My plan is to go with 113 or Vortec double-drilled heads and an LT4 Hot cam.
Then port out my CFI intake, bore the TB's to 2.0", upgrade to 68lb injectors and
30psi fuel pressure. Happy modding!
