I just replaced the alternator and the tensioner pulley. ( see my other post about that ordeal)

The vette has 115K on her.

I expect that the water pump and OPTi should be replaced soon as the status of them is unknown.

The rear end was replaced and I have the original 3.07.
I think the old owner told me he had put a 3.54 in instead?
He had a bunch of receipts where he replaced ball joints hoses and stuff. (He worked at Advance Auto.)

Well Upon further review of the receipts the water pump ($132.00)and the distributor cap ($224.00 part #18200183 ?)were replaced in Jan 2006 so I may be able to wait awhile on these.

What are the virtues or vices of GM vs Accel and MSD optis?
What else should I start saving for parts wise?

There are nylon bushings in the headlight assembly that might need to be replaced soon. You'll know when to do this by either the headlights not rotating fully open or closed, or if the motor continues to run for after it does rotate all the way. This is a simple and cheap job.

If they weren't done, the universal joints would probably need to be replaced sometime soon too, both on the driveshaft and rear end.

I bought my with a little over 100k and unknown age on the water pump and opti, 50k later the water pump started going so I replaced both....I'd imagine you've got awhile before having to think about this.

With the cost to replace an Opti I would follow this advice. If it's not broke leave it alone. Seriously I think the opti is probably replaced more times from fear than from need.

Remember forums like this one tend to discuss the problems someone is having. Normally people don't post about what hasn't gone bad on their cars.

If I had listened to my mechanic on my car I would have replaced the opti at least 3 times by now. The fact is all my starting, running issues were created by other less costly parts.
