Sorry I dont have a picture for now, but on an 84 the outlet of the smog pump/ air pump connects to it it has what looks like two diaphrams on it as well as a little electric solenoid on the top. it has two rubber hose connections on it. The big one comes from what appears to be a exhaust collector from the manifold on the passenger side and has a smaller rubber hose that goes to the front of the "air cleaner" I ask because the little solenoid on the top broke off and was some what molded into it?

That is the air pump diverter and switching valve. It is part of the pollution control system and diverts the air to the exhaust manifold, cat conv., or air intake.

When I first bought my 86 and popped the hood, I said, to myself, HOLY SH**, WHAT IS ALL THIS STUFF!!!

Anyway, I disconnected, removed and plugged all the A.I.R. and EGR stuff and became a happy camper thereafter.

In my opinion all that STUFF was nothing more than a band-aid approach to meet the Government's requirements. You can meet/accomplish the same requirements without all those parts which are destined to fail.

I had my PROM re-programmed and passed emissions without a hitch.

That's just me; I'm old school.

That works if you're in an area that doesn't require a visual inspection.

I haven't gotten rid of my egr (yet), but I bought an A.I.R. pump delete kit from TPIS and removed all the related plumbing that goes with it. Sure cleans up the engine compartment.

Of course, here in central Illinois we don't have any type of emissions inspection.

My 91 Coupe w/auto passed with the air pump on but the egr disconnected by accident. This last week in CT so your mileage may vary..
