I HAVE A 1987 VETTE WITH 30,000 MILES (I DRIVE IT ON WEEKEND) I STAY IN BARSTOW CA. ITS ALWAYS HOT OUT HERE ANYWHERE FROM (97-110)
I WANT TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF OIL TO USE.
you really can,t go wrong using a good name brand SYNTHETIC in the 10W 30 range
personally I use 9 qts of mobile #1 synthetic and a 1/2 qt of marvel mystery oil in my custom 10 qt oil pan, but CHANGINING the oil and filter REGULARLY and using a decent oil and filter,is one of the more important factors in long engine life, the brand is less important if the changes are frequent. if you choose to use mineral base oils ,KENDALL,SHELL, and VALVOLINE , make a good product
Mobil-1 should be able to stand up to the heat better than a dino oil. Use 5W-30 as that is the recommended weight for the L98 motor and I would change it twice a year give the few miles you drive each year.
Mobil-1 should be cheaper at the PX if they stock it; otherwise get the 1-gallon or even the 5-quart jugs at a Wal-Mart.
Use a good oil filter like a K&N, Mobil-1 or even the AC Delco PF1218 filter (it has a larger capacity but doesnt' stick down below the oil pan).
